Strange chit........mine has p/n 981477 stamped on the back (minute font) and it is mostly black, not polished up. WTF? Gotta love the quality control. 

That's probably a mold number Joe.  OE's own mold number before it ever gets packaged and sold to HD and the whole assembly gets and HD #.

both the original and the fake both have /n 981477 stamped on the back

the way to tell them apart is

the original buckle has a matt/dull finish to the metal on the face side and the rear has alot of small detail, i donno sort of hammered appearance
while the frontal finish of the fake buckle is of a polished darker appearance with must less detail on the rear side

To make things easier we could call the real ones "ruckle" and the fake ones "f$%*le". I have a ... never mind.
