Layed it down in Las Vegas
« on: July 23, 2009, 11:30:44 PM »

You know how hot Vegas is in the summer?  Well, I was there late June on my way from Denver to SoCal and after visiting my nephew at his house i was on my way back on the road to head to California when I went across what you see the in picture (oil and water).  I was at a stop, and made my right turn when my rear tire kick left and next thing i knew I was on the ground...

I was slightly injured, bike was barely damaged with the exception of a pinched wire (that LVHD found for me the next day) which wouldn't let me start it up again.

Next day, HOG roadside assistance came and got my bike and took to LVHD where they got me on my way!

Things happen for a reason - well, they looked at my rear tire and said I was down to 2/32 of an inch - so I had it replaced.

I'm healing up - so is my pride and my bike just needs a new front fender skirt.

Heal up quick.  Sounds like the bike was well taken care of in Vegas.  Let us know of your progress.    :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks boatman.

My elbow is healed, my left leg still has a big knot. The day after I did ride, with great caution, from Vegas to SoCal.  I started to get my confidence back along that 300 mile trip.  The very next day I got a phone call from the service writer at LVHD asking me how I was doing, if the trip went okay and how the bike was handling.

Very impressive.

Thanks

Glad you're OK. My son lives in Lost Wages, and they have at least two really good dealerships with excellent customer service. They get it right.

You are really lucky you were not going faster.  I have experienced the same thing but luckly did not dump it.  This would be a VERY good topic for an advanced class or saftey session.

I know how lucky I was...as a matter of fact - I really believe it happened for a reason - seeing my rear tire was down to 2/32 of an inch.

to your point, I have replayed that event in my head over and over and over again.  Trying to figure out what I could have done differently to avoid dumping it.  The only thing I can think of is if I would have kept a little on the throttle, maybe i could have pulled through it - but I know my instinctive reaction was to squeeze the clutch and brake.

I'm still very careful (maybe too much so) when I go over wet concrete areas (you know what I'm talking about).

I plan on taking an advanced class through MSF here in Colorado this year...

thanks
