Klock Werks 12" Flare windshield on 09 SERG
« on: August 10, 2009, 07:12:59 PM »

I just installed a new 12" Klock Werks windshield on my 09 SERG. I must saw, I am impressed with it's performance. I read alot of post on here and there seems to be a good bit of discrepency on the performance of this shield. Whenever I was riding with the stock "wind deflector" I couldn't hear the radio good enough at 80 MPH to make out the song. With this new Klock Werks piece, I am able to hear the radio fine at a little over half volume at 80+. I also removed my sunglasses and had no ill effects from the wind at 115 MPH. I'm 5' 11" and I'm using the stock saddle. The perfomance is acceptable and the look of the shield blends in well with the styling of the bike. This one is a keeper!

I just put the same one on yesterday and I love it.
I'm 6'2" and also find the radio louder and the wind noise quiter.
I find I feel the downforce on the front end, as the bike feels
more stable at speed, imho.

I put a 12" KW's on mine and although better than the stock bikini windshield, I hated it! My glasses would buffet like crazy at anything over about 60 mph.

It came off last Friday and I now have a 14" Cee Bailey's .........it's a lot better.

I'm 5' 11" with a 32" inseam, and have the new Hammock seat which raises the rider up at least 1.5"

Lowering the bike 1" in the rear will make this windshield a keeper, for those that are 6' of shorter.
One inch lower makes the all the difference.
The 09' and later can be lowered 1"/
Check the tire clearance through the seat rear mounting hole, you will find 3 7/8" .
Lowering is your option.

Love the "looK', and had a 12" on the ultra, but for long rides just did not "do it" for me, (6ft) I went with the cee baily,

A-men every body is built differently but I could only ride about 4 mi on my SERG without removing the 12in KW, above 60 mph turbulance was terrible. Looked great however I kept the picture.

I installed the 12" KW on my 09 SERG also, it works great for me, 5'8" 32 inseam, stock seat. Did you guys use the stock windshield seal? I installed mine without it. I don't like the way it looks, looks incorrect. Did you guys have to buy different screws (longer)? If so did you get them from a regular 09 Road Glide?

I used the stock Roadglide (not CVO) rubber seal on mine.  This is the 16" mounted-since sold and 12" back on.

Lowering the SERG by using shorter shocks is not possible , i tried with 11.5" progressives heavy duty and it did not work because everytime i hardly pulled the throttle , it bottomed . ow do you want to lower it 1" ?
But you are right that the performance of every shield will be better , even when lowering a half inch , you will notice improved wind flow for the rider . ( maybe not for performance when aggressive riding , then it should be lowered at the front i guess )
