Front end question
« on: August 12, 2009, 03:41:26 PM »

06 FLHX (Street Glide) I am about to change the fork oil on my two SG's. Is there anything I should replace or upgrade while doing this job without much trouble?

I suppose Traxxion inserts would be classified as "trouble"?  Do you like the way it works now?

Works just fine, but then if you know no better then it's hard to say. I think I'll just change the oil and leave it alone. It's been fine this far so it'll probably be fine for several thousand more miles.

For consideration, I have no experience with the suspension oil products.

Thanks Miker, I took a look, I have already bought some SE oil and if I can manage to get to the garage this AM it will be in one of the bikes, maybe both by the weekend, we will shoot for one bike at the moment though. I still don't feel well, ever since my trip to the Doc last week for my 3 month blood check. So how's it going in South Florida? The Lake Wales dealer is shut down now. They are the ones that screwed my clutch up after changing the stator. It was a good stop off place when I headed that way.

Was that Ridge HD?

They had a real nice J model in the showroom and wanted 50 bucks for Tshirt.
Nice facility, musta carried a big nut.
I kinda wondered why such a dealer was built in the middle of grey hair alley and where they find talent to work, looks like the didnt.  MIght make a good location for the ManMall.

Yes it was Ridge HD. It was a part of Lakeland HD. Man, the lightning is cracking all around me, glad I have the UPC on the big screen. I'm out in the garage now starting to do the front end, had to reposition some wires also since I have the tank off. Catch ya later.

Man,what seems an easy job can always turn messy. I sure could have used a little help pumping the front end but that can wait till tomorrow now. The crap that came out was nasty black muck oil.

There is a rubber seal on the cap at the top of the fork. One of the seals was cut when the cap was removed. I drew a picture for the wife to bring to the dealer. The drawing was pretty much self explanatory without the text I added. So the wife comes back with the seals, they were wrong. They look like seals for the timing chain cover on a Chevy. I suspect they must be seals for inside the fork, who knows. This is bad, the parts guy can't look at a simple drawing and figure out what is needed. I sent her back with the cap and seal, hopefully the guy can figure it out now.

Don't forget the chrome drain screws!  Oh and put your name on a set of Ricor suspension dampers over in the group buy section.

So I roll the wife's bike out of the garage and roll mine in to change engine, primary, tranny oil, and also to change the fork oil in mine also. I pull the tank off, take the switch panel off, get my 35 mm wrench, put it on the cap on one fork and it wasn't tight, put it on the other cap and it wasn't tight either. I am surprised these frigging bikes have not fallen apart. I guess they don't double check their work at the factory. This is why we have issues with our bikes, sometimes the same issues, and sometimes different problems.

Who do blame the factory or the dealer. I found my oil filter loose and leaking, if I say anything, I will be the big A Hole.  :soapbox:

Hi mattm,

have you installed the ricor intiminator? The size
they propose, is that the fork-diameter-size?
What are your experiences with the ricor's with
and without BSR?
I'm still looking for a good solution and try to get
as much input as possible.

thanks, Bandit
