the ride not taken
« on: May 06, 2003, 10:15:17 AM »

this is not the story of a ride but a ride not taken, as you may have heard in the news this past weekend "the old man" of the mountain colapsed, the "old man" had been a resident of Franconia, N.H. for thousands of years, and was something i had seen in person once as a child, he stood watch over some great roads for rides but as is often the case we dont often visit the places we take for granted  now a piece of history is gone and only a jagged image remains.  the next time i ride through Franconia Notch i will only see this

although i will always remember the old man as i saw him when i was a child

if you want to know more about the old man visit http://www.nhparks.state.nh.us/ParksPages/franconianotch/oldmanhistory.html

This is interesting.......I've never even heard of it before.  Makes me wonder what famous landmarks that we have that is only famous in the west and we never realize it because we live here.

We had the good fortune to get through there the summer before it fell. Didn't even plan on it but was tickled when we went by. Just another one of those unplanned bonuses we get to experience every so often when we're in the wind. Too bad it's gone and that all that remains is crumbled rock, some pics and memories.
