6'0" No problem. Just remember if the Heavy Breather kit say to used the existing breather bolts, don't. My experience and other's in this formun have experience oil leaks by using the bolts from the existing ail filter. You may have to purchase the breather bolts from a 2008 Road Glide. Bolt should have a hole thru the bolt.

Altugo,

You will know your shin on the HD heavy breather but I don't find it to be a problem.

Most important!!  As noted above, you'll need the stock breather bolts from the 96" RG, HD part #29465-08.  They come as a pair..  If you search "breather bolts" in the SERG board, you'll read what happened to some of us.  If you use yours and run the motor, you'll puke oil all over the right side (been there).  Good luck.

Nice! Thats on my list...... I have this on my 2008 SERK and for me it gets in the way of me putting my leg up on the crash bar. Granted, its not a SERG.

I have a question, if, and I say if, cause I don't know, if the stock filter is pushing in all the air that the stock throddler body can take, what is the point on the heavy breather???

The heavy breather smoothes out the air prior to entering the engine.  It has been proven via Dyno run that you will get a couple extra horse.  Dont know if it is worth the money for the heavy breather.  I do know its worth the COOL factor!  Gives that nice" I'm faster than he!!" look.   :huepfenlol2:

A couple of HP's for that kind of money could be spent somewhere else. Fullsac Steve says the stock SERG filter only cuts about 3HP vs no filter at all. So the Heavy breather to add anything would suprise me. I do not believe the smooth out the airflow deal, the sharp bend would disrupt it more than a couple inches of staight could smooth, but if you have the backing plate chromed it does look cool. Someone on here mentioned Ram effect, the end of the filter is blunt, how could it Ram anything? But it does look cool.

I do believe that is on a stock engine.  I thought their was a little gain with the heavy breather if you had removed the cat, fullsac baffels and a map.

Seems with his latest update, the Anderws 54 cam, thinner head gasket he added the heavy breather to make the big torque.

I could be wrong, but I will be talking to him about that cam and map...Sure had nice curve on the chart..

Quick questions for all;

Is anyone running the Heavy Breather (HB) with the lower fairings?

P&A Book states the HB can't be used with glove boxes.  Anybody running with lower fairing glove boxes?

On my scooter I'm also trying to kill the heat.  But, I won't give up the lower fairing.  The 49-96 catless head pipe made a large improvement in heat reduction (Preception, not measured in any formal way.  And, my seat say's the torque band moved south.)

The way the air flows with or without lower fairings onto the front jug and then bypassing your leg, there in other place for the hot air to go but by the headpipe and then under the football AC.  Which heats up the football.

I'm just waiting on the breather bolts to arrive and the HB will be installed.

But, that does bring up another question.  As we're not changing the throttle body, the only advantage I see is probably a cooler air source in front of the headpipe flow.  And cooler air doesn't really appear to require a re-map.

Is anyone running stock with the HB?

Thank you.

Great News.

For 2010 The motor company got wise after all the call I made to the regarding my 2005 SEUC with lower faring.

They just came out with the Heavy Breather for lower fairing, and Yes I have see it in action.

Here is the part number for the full kit 28716-10 Chrome Compact Design $299.95.

It you want to add lowers and already have the heavy breather you will need this part number to replace the filter element to the shorter to accommodate the lower.

That part number is 28714-10 Retail for $89.95. Is on backorder to Mid September.

Additional information can be found in the 2010 Screamin eagle  Pro Racing parts book. page 25.

Just a comment on the heavy breather. Jamie at Fuel Moto claims back to back testing by his dyno and also by other dyno's he communicates with show no gain from the heavy vs the stock set up. I'm curious if any one can dispute this with there dyno runs? :drink:

Kuryakyn really can't get over those big, rolled, folded looking covers they've been doing so much of the last couple years.  Have to assume some like the look as they do keep making them.  But as a stylistic theme it just ain't my thing.  Get the stock ugly black plate chromed.  It'll actually look like it belongs there.  Unless someone likes the Kuryakyn piece.  Then it's good too :drink: .

I guess there are those that like that look...it's not my "cup of tea".  I think someone in another thread called it a "gothic" look.  I have to agree.  It's just a little too far out for my tastes.  Bet those parts would look good on a Victory Vision though.... :huepfenlol2:

The HD one chromed looks good, the Kurakyn one looks cheap, and it isn't cheap. All the Kurakyn stuff looks the same way, made for the Honda/Kawa crowd I think.
But unless you like the look, no reason to buy a Heavy breather, it will not make more power regardless of shape. Surface area of the stock breather on a SERG far surpasses what the engine can use, even when heavily modified a twin cylinder pushrod 2 valve motor can only use so much air.

It's a pretty easy install, just a few beers is all it takes

Very easy install, really didn't need any beers.
Put 20 miles on her this evening after the install.  My shin never touched her until I reached for the rear brake.
In 20 miles the stock AC would have been hot to the touch.  The snorkel was lightly warm, but not hot.  I suspect the 360 air source in the cone filter is a benefit.
Used the thick gasket and left the backing plate off.  Looks like it's just another heat sink and I really don't want to retain heat.
Performance didn't seem to change much, if any from the stock with the 49-96 catless header.  No spark knock or strange noises.  However, it (intake noise) is really a lot louder when you start rolling it on above 3,000 rpm.  That could be due to the lower fairing magnifying the noise back to you in an echo type of effect.
It's a keeper.

Did HD release a new version of the heavy breather (I know, could check the P&A site but I really need the post count)?  Remember the -08 version specifying against use with fairing lowers.

New one or just mounted it anyway?

Sorry about the delay in responding.  I needed to get the box out and verify what I had.

It's; P/N 29253-08A HEAVY BREATHER A/C KIT TOURING

And, from the US SE10 Catalog;

"Fits ’08-later Touring models. Street legal when used with Original Equipment throttle body. Also fits with 58mm
Throttle Body P/N 27713-08 and 27639-07 (race application only). Installation with Throttle Body P/N 27639-07 requires purchase of (2) Screw P/N 29465-08. Does not fit models equipped with fairing lower glove boxes.*"

I've still got the stock TB p/n 27685-08A (which requires the 29465-08 Breather Bolts), so I it's still street legal.  But, the filter does have a space conflict with the right side glove box.  So no glove box.

Hawg Sounds earlier identified a new Compact Design HB and new filter that's soon to be available, but the 29253-08A with standard filter will work with lowers and no glove box.

So, how important is the right side lower fairing glove box?

For me, getting rid of the overheated football A/C was the need.  My boot zipper has gotten so hot sitting next to  the football that it burned my leg just sitting at a stop light.  And, that's not funny.

This was all about rider comfort.  Not performance.

Here's the new one: Compact Design - Chrome, PN: 28716-10

Fits ’08-later Touring models equipped with Fairing Lower Glove Boxes. Slightly shorter cone-shaped element provides clearance from the fairing lower. Street legal when used with Original Equipment throttle body.*

For those of you with the Heavy Breather,

Are the oil breathers routed into the intake and if so, have you experienced any oil residue or misting at the filter itself? The stock SERG filter will drip oil after it becomes saturated from the breather blow-by. I think the Heavy Breather might eliminate this issue if the breathers are routed to the intake well after the filter element.

Hello JDFR120,  I used to live down the street on Kennedy years ago.  Honestly, I don't miss the humidity.

I'm aware of what you're referring to.  I used to have the oil accumulation in the inside of the stock filter.  Many a cleaning session in the sink.  I've only got 500 miles on the new HB, but I don't see any indication of the any oil buildup yet.  I took it apart after the first 30 miles to review the installation and see if it looked like something wasn't right.  And, then again at about 200 miles, it was still clean as it had been before.  The different breather bolts create a bit different flow dynamic and the oil gallery's while similiar appear to pool oil inside the breather bolt corridor instead of dumping it straight into the filter box.  If I see any changes I'll post the observation.  But, it is a Harley?
