Who Has / Likes Lowers On Their SERG?
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:19:37 AM »

i didn't think I was going to like the lowers either, i was resisting the force of becoming a Full Bagger guy. figured I'd just put them on for colder weather. now that I had them custom painted to match and installed these speakers, they haven't been off since Eureka Springs.
Seriously though, get them off ebay, don't worry about the color, have them painted to match, comes out cheaper & I got a guy

Well I will think about it.  I too have fought being a Geezer Glide type guy.  The only time my chopped tour pack is on is for two night or longer trips.

I may talk to you this winter about having your guy do some paint work or such on my chopped tour pac.

If which ever clear view I decide to order does not do the trick, I may look into lowers.

I also have the lowers with the speakers.  I actually like the look of the bike w the lowers.  It makes the bike look sportier (IMHO).  However, the heat is killing me on the right side.  I just can't take it anymore.  So, I will take them off to see if that helps with the heat issue and install some sort of vent (Hoppes).

Classic SERGs of course came with the lowers.  So it wasn't a decision I had to make.  Using them, however, is a decision to be made.

I personally prefer the look of the bike with them on.  Also like the potential for dry or dryer feet if get caught out in the weather.  But it does get warm behind them when the weather gets hot.

I leave the lowers on for 2.5 to three seasons.  Run without them when the weather is warm but carry a set of soft lowers in the saddlebag.  Can use them if it's suddenly a cool evening or raining.

Heat is one reason I really am not sure if I want lowers.  Heck in the summer it's hot enough on the legs with out lowers.

I have them, and I do like them!  It took eight weeks for the moco to get the "Custom Painted" lowers (Oh, and did I say I believe extremely way over priced) to rural Nevada.  So, I got a lot of riding in with the wonderful stock headpipe.  Memories fade, but I really don't believe there was much difference between dressed and undressed with regard to heat.

But, this is my first (and, will hopefully be my last) Harley.  I've basically retired my 30 year old R100RT that has 100K on it.  I haven't ridden her once since.  She was the first of the full fairing Boxers and to me it just seemed right to have lowers on the SSERG.  I complain about the SSERG heat.  But, it's really nothing.  If you want to really experience heat, stand on the footpegs with your feet tucked under the jugs on blistering hot asphalt.   However, those jugs did work well in the winter.

And, one of my concerns is foot stability.  I was used to the footpegs or really foot anchors.  Those first two months, my feet were all over the place in wind and vibration.  Honestly, the first time I took it up to the cubic inches, I backed off because my feet were moving on the floorboards (honestly, I never exceeded the breakin RPMs).  The bike was stable as a rock, but my feet were trying to keep up.  I don't dance well on the scoot.  Lower fairings cured it.  Now, my feet stay put.

How much would a guy spend to get a set of them painted?  Silver if it matters  :nixweiss:
