Just wondering how many folks around the site are ex-military, or still active, or retired.

I spent 23 years in and decided to retire, spent most of my time as Watercraft Engineer. Moved up the ranks for 12 years then decided to become a Warrant Officer 881A......

What say You ??

3 weeks shy of 24 years AD AF.

Waiting for line numbers for Oct to come out to find out if I'm 9 days or 1 month & 9 days from putting on Chief Master Sgt (E9)

Just re-enlisted for the last time to take me out to 30 years. I figured since it was the last time, I'd do it right... asked our Marine 2-star (I'm in a joint unit) deputy CG to do the honors on top of Mount Fuji here in Japan, at sunrise. So we climbed all night and reached the summit just after sunrise. One of the highlights of my career!!

I am an active Duty Lieutenant Colonel (Select) of Marines - should pin on here in a few months, guessing Feb - possibly Jan if they stick to last years numbers.

I have been in the Marine Corps off and on now for 20 years, my broken time and reserve time before coming back on AD full time make me a career mongrel... Retirement at 20 will be in 2018, and yeah - I am counting.

Was a Communications Officer until Aug - we PCS'd here to Quantico and now I am a Acquisitions Professional - I buy stuff - primarily IT hardware and software. I miss being in the Fleet Marine Corps, but we all have a job to do, and this is mine for the foreseeable future. $:-\$ $:-\$

USN 1971-1975 ADJ-2 SAR Crewman UH-1N. Did search and rescue in Kings Canyon and Yosemite, tough duty flying around Yosemite in a government helicopter. Made a few pretty crazy rescues off El Capitan and in the Muir gorge...Fun stuff, oh to be 19 again...

yep - a Gunny from MARSOC... nice guy and promised me he would take care of the house, which was a relief

pondering what we will do if he doesn't renew, re-rent or sell it...

I really, really want that house sold, or a long term renter.

I am going to have to do at least 22, when I hit 20 I will have my son in his Junior year of HS - no way I am going to make him move in the middle of HS...I did it and it SUCKED

I did a short 5 yrs in the USN. Spent most of my enlistment in training schools and ultimately landed on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) as a FC3 when she was home ported in Alameda California.

OK, so now that you're an acquisition weenie and all, Sean, how you likin' it? Miss the troops, don'tcha? That's why I look forward to every training, DT, FT, and OT event. Completely different world, and a whole new perspective, but at least you are now in a position to make sure the Warfighter gets stuff that he can use....and that it actually works in a combat environment. Very rewarding career path for someone who has BTDTGTTS.

Have you done any DAU training yet? There's a piece of work for ya.
If you haven't seen it, grab a copy of "The Pentagon Wars." Yeah, OK, it is a comedy, but the materiel therein isn't far off. Good flick.

Me, USN from Nov 1981 until Dec 2001. Retired as a EMC (electrician mate Chief) Was sureface and Air warefare qualified. Two Sub tenders, one Air Craft carrier and then Distroyers. I loved every minute of it, but chose not to put on Senior so I could retire at 20.

Wife also did her 20 for Uncle Sam's Cannoe Club.

I am giving it a year here and then I am looking for any IA billet I can find to the 'Stan to get a break from the stupid universe I was sucked into here.

Followed the foot steps of both may parents: Mom was in the Army from 1951-1955, Dad was in Army from 1950 to 1970. I broke ranks and joined the US Navy 1976 to 1982. Aviation Ordnance, VAQ136 ECM Jammers onboard USS Independence and USS Saratoga, then last 2 years as AO Aircrew flyin P3's chasing submarines and sea air rescues and costal patrol. Gotta say Uncle Sam sure knows how to show us how to travel the world in the Navy. Proud family serving our Country!

oh, I am tracking to that... I am having a really hard time being a cubicle monkey, my language and demeanor just are not as well appreciated here as they were at the last stop. I am constantly having to check my mouth and apologize for my constant use of profanity. I can make entire briefs with a profanity in every sentence and not even realize it - here I have to. they also seem to not value my unvarnished honesty for some reason

Eight years, one month, and one day in the United States Navy. But who's counting. I spent two years in schools, four years on a couple of submarine tenders, and two years building missiles up in Washington State. And then an old retired chief who was now working for a contractor asked me if I wanted a job fixing all the missiles I broke in the Navy. As the Navy said I was only qualified to fix toasters, I took him up on the offer and have spent the last thirty years working on missiles and all the gear that goes with them. So I am still working with the white hats, still working on ships (occasionally) and still proud to have served.

Does being in the Army, an MP, count? Had a language MOS and was sent to Germany during the heat of Vietnam. Saved my butt from getting shot or shooting up. :-) Looking back at it, the Army was good.

21 years and counting. Prior enlisted Air Force as an F4 electronic repair tech and crossed trained to B52 fire control operator before "gunners" were retired after Desert Storm. Now I'm US Army physician on my third Iraq tour. Oh, my wife was Army and is now Public Health Service. She rides too

4 years in the Air Force 1978- 1982. I was at Mather AFB in Sacramento for 3 - 1/2 years. 320th Bomb Wing. I was an aircraft Electrician on B-52G &
KC-135 tankers. Went TDY for 3 month during the Iran Hostage crisis and went to Guam , PI, Okinawa & 39 days in Diego Garcia. Those were some great years looking back.....

4 years in the Marine Corps as a Field MP. Remainder has been Commissioned time in the Army as a 21B, Engineer in the Indiana NG. 2 Combat tours to Mosul. All of 2005 with the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat team under 25th Infantry Division, later 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Arrived in Mosul about 1 week after the chow hall bombing in 2005. 2LT then Platoon Leader, led over 300 combat missions.

This second tour began in Aug 2009 under the 7th Cavalry, 130th Engineer Brigade. CPT Now Commanding. So far so good.

39 day in Diego Garcia sucked at the time. I got there it was hot and sunny! They told me to be careful because you could get a sunburn in an hour. Second day there monsoon season started and as I remember it rained almost non stop the rest of the time I was there. We lived in plywood shacks with screen windows and everything got damp. We had cold outdoor showers and a out house with 50 gal drums cut in half and some JP5 jetfuel in them to kill the flies! We only flew one day a week so after preflight each day we were free to do whatever. That was getting drunk and I mean out of your freaking mind drunk. The rest is a blur but we made the best of it. When I finally got relieved I had to fly to Okinawa because Guam was having a Typhoon. I got some much needed relief there! I guess to look back it didn't seem so bad, but at the time it was Miserable.....

I was a Major, Squadron Commander in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (RCAC), retired last year after 27 years of service to the Canadian Forces, the people of Canada and Her Majesty, the last 8 years working at National Defense HQ in the Information Managment Group... retired on Fri as an Major, showed back up at work on Monday as a Mr. Now a happy public servant doing the same old same old
