Which over pants to buy? And who makes the best antifog helmet
« on: September 22, 2009, 06:40:29 PM »

I looking for something to wear over my jeans to cut the morning chill.
I want something that I can get in and out of fast. My chaps are kind
ok a pain and don't offer full protection. I don't typically ride in the
rain and I have a rain suit if needed. Also who makes the best antifog
flip up helmet.

Overpants are kind of a personal thing that you have to experiment with yourself. They usually come in two varieties, leather or cordura. I have had both, a leather set of overpants from FoxCreek and a cordura set from Motorport. The thing I didn't like about the leather overpants is that they are bulky, and I'm a fairly slim guy (5'7" 145lbs 32" waist). When I wear them I feel thick in the waist and hips because I am wearing undies, jeans, and then leather overpants. That's quite a few layers of waist bands on top of each other. The thickness was such that I use suspenders instead of a belt to hold them up. I also found that they bunched up when seated. If you look at your jeans now you will see that there are gathered folds in your lap. Now image that same effect in leather over the jeans. One of the reasons chaps are popular (although many argue about coverage and safety) is that the open front and backside reduces the amount of layering in those areas. I had the same experience with the cordura pants when I rode sport/tour bikes. So I went one size smaller and wore them without jeans. I really can't help you with an antifog helmet because I use an open face.

I ride all year round and when its cold I wear Harley FXRG nylon overpants.  Had mine for 3 years and they are great - warm, comfortable, windproof and pretty water repellent.  I bought them a size larger than my pants size and they slip on & off easily over my jeans. They've held up very well.  Only drawback is that they are too warm for summer use.

cheers!

I bought the Icon Arc over pants. The pants are true to size and fit great. My only complaint
is the sippers on the bottom of the leg work their way open when riding down the road. I'm
thinking a small leash on the sipper and a snap on the bottom of the leg should do the trick.

Ditto - very happy with FXRG - when 50 deg or colder.

Problem is I don't think they are making the cordura FXRG pants anymore.  I have the leather FXRG, and they are great, but they do bunch up with you are on the bike, but I only really notice it when I first get on the bike.

Helmet won't control fogging on its own. You need anti-fog shield insert, Fog City the best generic brand, Shoei, Nolan have there own and I know the Shoei post mount anti fog shield works exceptional.

I just wore the FXRG leather pants from PA to FL and back.  I went through rain, cold, and excessive heat and they worked quite well in all situations.  Happy camper with the FXRG leather pants.

Happy with my Fieldsheer pants.Waterproof with a removable quilted liner.Have ridden in the low 20s with them without a problem.Reason I picked them is the legs unzip to within about a foot of the waist band.Makes them pretty easy to get on & off, even with my size 13s.

My choice of helmet with the best anti-fog, ventilation, and fit is the Vemar Carbon Eclipse.  Others I've had are the Shoei
RF-1000 and the H-D FXRG.  As far as the over pants, I swear by my FXRGs.

Hope this helps and ride safe,

There are "Pinlock" anti-fog insert for Arai and Shoei.  They work great.  Have you looked at them?

Another positive endorsement on the HD FXRG nylon overpants. Have used them for over a year and they are great. You can still pick them up on ebay if you're patient.
