Why Clean?
« on: October 04, 2009, 01:47:01 PM »

There are plenty of reasons:
Pride of ownership
Worked my tail off to get my machines
They look great when they're clean
It's therapeutic
I like doing it

But the biggest reason is.......SAFETY!  It gives me a chance to look at EVERYTHING, to see if anything is loose, shifted, or in today's case, missing.  Had anything gone wrong, this could have killed me.  That, and the pin is in backward, but that's no big deal.  I'm fresh out of cotter pins, so the Purple Bike is NMCS until I can get a fresh supply sometime this week.

Another view.  Sorta scary.  Wonder how long I was riding like this?  Will be added to my pre-ride checklist.

Well the good thing Henry is that pin can be a little tough to get out.

Yessir, which is why I'll likely leave it as is and secure it with a fresh cotter pin.

Henry when I had Crash up at axil's shop they found the same pin missing.

Actually I think I have to remove the brake pedal nut to get that pin out  :nixweiss:

I suppose I could do that as opposed to a cotter pin.  Stuff is a real booger to work with in tight spaces tho'.   :nixweiss:  Wouldn't be a very pretty safety unless I removed the front header to gain access.  That ain't happening.  Cotter pin.   :2vrolijk_21:

Before 98 or 99 (or so) those pins didn't have a press fit OE.  So if you lost a cotter key you'd lose everything.  After that change they'll pretty much stay on their own though if they've never been interfered with.  Good catch Henry.

Nothing great there - it is what I had in the toolbox after damaging the cotter pin. And it is way easier to r&r
