Harley shorty antennas
« on: October 27, 2009, 11:06:15 AM »

Just wondering if anyone has changed over to the new style antennas the moco is now using.  Replaced my whips with the J&M shorties when they came out but my radio reception seems to be lacking.  Last weekend riding with friend who has a new cuse5 and he was listening to a ball game.  Gave me the FM station number but all I could get was static on that station.  And I've noticed that when I scan stations some of the local ones that should come in just get skipped over.

So any info regarding the Harley shorties vs the J&Ms?

The shorty that came stock on my SESG was good. I changed to the Kuryakyn 12" and that works fine for me as well.

I went with the MOCO shorties and so far, no complaints.

I pulled the flex covers back on my JM antennas and found the springs were rusted in half and the cable through the middle was also broken. I put the harley whipps back on and can hear the radio again.

I'll check that for sure.

Keep in mind, if you go to the newe (09 and above) style short whips, you need to bypass the coil in the tourpack for your cb.

I'm using the 09 antennas on my 08 Ultra (bypass the matching coil for thr CB) and they work just fine.
