Hello all.

Thinking of this route (about 1000 miles each way)

Has anyone done it, and what can they tell me, re: road conditions, crime, good fuel, lodgings etc.

A bunch of us did it in '04. The hotels were all booked ahead of time by the lady that organized it. All were out of town a ways - which I'd highly recommend (safer). We had no problems w/ crime - just pay attention to your surroundings. The road was excellent - better than some in the US or here. Gas is no problem - very clean & modern Pemex stations, most had premium (bring a bottle or 2 of octane boost). As JC said - watch out for the topes (speed bumps), they'll take out your kickstand spring in no time!
