Pipe comparisons
« on: January 01, 2006, 02:30:34 PM »

In general,  assuming AC and SERT mods as recommended, how much TQ/HP difference between a good set of slip-ons vs. true duals or 2-1?  I'm still debating the power/looks/loudness factors.....the 1000 mile point is fast approaching and I need to figure out my game plan. Let's hear from the exhaust pros!   Thanks!

Rineharts...my first and last choice.  Next set I use on personal bikes will be #10.

FWIW.. Just got my 04 SEEG back from the shop. We Dynoed it before we split the cases and dynoed it again when we put it back together.
This bike had a thunder header on it when I bought it. The noise gets annoying on long trips. I had a Screamin Eagle

Mine had the oil leak showing between the engine & trans, and on the bottom of the motor. I got the cases split under warranty to fix the leak.
Thought I'd try to quiet it down while we had it apart.
I'll run by the shop after the holidays (Tuesday) & see if I can get copies of the before & after dyno sheets to post. The only mods this bike has are the S&S 585 gear drive cams, the cometic head gaskets, HD High Flow AC and Race tuner.

Alazo;
Those numbers are low for what you have. others here with the same mods without the cams are reporting better numbers than yours. Do you have the race tuner or PCIII?

Also concerning is the S&S 585 cams have a .585 lift and the CVO 103 heads only have springs that will handle a .550 lift

This bike has the race tuner... Bought this bike used with about 3500 miles on it. Only got to put about 500 miles on it before the bad weather. Gonna ride it this way for a month in Florida and evaluate it. My last bike was 80 hp so the step up to 100hp may satisfy my needs for awhile. Engine was built when I bought it. I know the previous owner & the engine builder. My tech says the S&S cams are the reason for the low numbers has suggested LeinWebber cams. I have to assume that the springs were changed, but will find out Tuesday.

One pipe for performance on a motor under 113ci  "THUNDER HEADER" You can say what you want but any two into one will out perform and single dual set up hands down. On your larger motors D&D Fat Cat. I have no personal experience with them but Zippers swears by them.

My personal experiences would suggest that Thunderheader is the all around best performace pipe for a wide variety of engine sizes and types, BUT the noise is more than I can take and in some states attracts the law in a huge way. I'm on my first set of Reinharts so I don't have a lot of experience with them but I can say they perform well, run reasonably quiet when you stay off the throttle and open up nice out on the road. All in all a great combination of performance, noise abatement while still retaining a nice sound and most importantly a quality product.

With the only mods to my SEEG being just a SE Air Cleaner Stage 1 kit and SE Race tuner my numbers were only 95.1 HP and 98.1 TQ with the D&D 2 into 1 pipes.
To my surprise when i swithched to the Rineharts my numbers were 94.5 HP and 99.0 TQ. my torque was higher with the Rineharts but i lost about a 1/2 HP.

If you're staying at 103c.i. I agree with The Dawgs statement. You could also look into the RB racings 2:1.
D&D makes two versions of the 2:1 Fatcat, (the fatcat Borezilla is made for 103 and larger c.i. with Heavy engine mods.) If you're staying at 103 c.i. with bolt on mods the Borezilla would not be the pipe for you. D&D fatcat, Thunderheader, RB racing!! The "NEW Rinehart 2:1" would also be worth looking into.

Good luck in your search.

Take Care,

Grover

You may want to wait on the Rinehart 2:1 (if you are running a bigger then 88ci motor) at this time as this was a post from another thread.

Alazlo, you need to find a tuner that knows how to tune a Race Tuner because these numbers are low......especially for what you've got.

Listen, I have a stock motor, cams, etc. I just have the Screamin Eagle High Flow Air Cleaner, Race Tuner and Vance & Hines Pro Pipe and I'm pumpin 100HP and 104 Ft. Lbs. of Torque.
