HD Tech line advised that the original 251 cam in my bike had a lift of .579. The 257 & 258 cams are .580. . They advised that the stock valve springs in my stock 103 heads will handle the S&S 585 cam with no problem..... According to HD Tech the .550 lift discussed here does not apply to the 04 stock 103 heads...

The CVO 103 motor does not have a 251 cam., It has a CVO-253 cam with a lift of .538. I'm not sure who told you that but they have given you wrong information.

Edited, The lift is .538, I attached the cam data from the SE cataloge as well

I too question the .550 lift info. I just had my stock heads checked for clearance as I am adding Head Quarters cams with .580 lift on the intake. The springs in the CVO heads appear to be the exact same ones as in the HTCC non-ported heads. They are double wound with a damper and are quite different than the stock Harley springs on a 88 motor. We checked valve to valve and valve to piston and both are good to past .230 lift at TDC. The springs didn't coil bind at .600 lift either. We just cut the guides down a little to be on the safe side. The next time I'm in the shop I'm going to check the part # of the springs in the HTCC and the part # of the CVO springs.

A call was made to the factory some time ago. The factory stated that they were good for .550 lift. It may be that your set will take .585 but you need to remove them to check them. This is where all this has gone. A lot of people don't want to remove their heads. Now the 103 plus heads on the other hand will handle up to .650 lift. So the best I can tell you is if you are going over .550 plus maybe 10 more you need to check. I can tell you for sure that your valve to piston and valve to valve clearence will be fine with the S&S 585.

Final, short, post on the subject. Spoke with the Factory Tech line again today . Spoke of cams, part numbers for springs ect. Bottom line, for the third time, a third HD Factory tech advised that the S&S 585 cam would be fine with the stock 103 springs, valves & heads. The bike has had 3500 miles put on it with these cams & it's been ridden hard. I'm gonna go with Harley & when the motor comes apart I'll let everyone know...

The SE parts catalog only lists 1 set of springs with a damper, the part #18273-00 is for a "set" of 4 springs, the parts catalog for the SEEG stock heads lists the springs as part# 18272-00 for 2 springs, the local service writer near me made calls to MOCO and was told that the 18273# was the correct replacement parts for the complete set!!! what's the consensus on Hooker True Duals ?

An un-indited co-conspirator of mine is running em and talks em up louder than they sound and the suckers are loud

Stick with Thunderheaders for the best performance.  I tried several pipes, shotguns, SE 16 Gauge, and Thunderheaders and without a doubt, the Thunderheader performed much better and sounds great.  A bit louder than the previous two.

I don't want to buy anything  I have a set of Reinharts and love them. Yeah I know about Thunderheaders, I had them on at least three different bikes, but have decided to quiet down a bit.

My post was that a buddy has Hooker True Duals and goes on and on about em and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them .

Anyone have experience with the RB LSR 2-1 2" with the O2 sensor? I am thinking of pairing them with a Twintec closed loop FI setup.

ceej,

I would look at the RB Racing Black Hole 2:1, it is longer than the LSR goes just past the saddlebags and a lot quiter, however, still as good.

Apitbullpappa was selling a set of the LSRs, look back in the Selling Post to see if he still has the pipes.

I wonder how quiet the blackhole is? I currently have V&H Oval slip ons & am trying to talk myself into the black 2-1 --- I think it would look good on the pumkin but It's been years since I bought a part that wasn't chrome - don't know if I can bring myself to do it!
