Whats your suggestion about x pipes?
« on: January 13, 2006, 11:02:37 AM »

Hi everyone.I am considering x pipes for my bike.Whats your opinion about these? Are they any good for performance?Since 06 bikes come with a lot of buckshot accessories already installed i think the look might work. But on the other hand i dont want to sacrifice performance for looks.I am considering black with chrome heat shields.Do you think that its better to go full chrome? Here are some picks. Thanks for helping. I would definately look at all chrome, I havnt seen them on the bike but I cant imagine where
the black will look better than all chrome on a chromed out bike with a painted frame...you asked
for an opinion, but as always to each his own..

A Man can NEVER have too much CHROME!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] Request performance charts concerning HP increase.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  Later--HUBBARD

Thanks for replies.I guess your both right about the chrome. There really isnt much black parts except the seat so it may really look weird on the bike it self.If i can figure the torque and hp gains i might wanna go with double shielded chrome.

Those x pipes are pretty high up and would be a hotspot for any passenger riding along.  Not sure how the foot pegs would fit with these pipes.  If you're planning on having an occasional passenger with you it's something to consider.

They look like even the rider may have a problem with heat. They are very unusal looking pipes I have never seen them before. I am also not a big fan of pipes with out a balance tube. I would sacrafice some preformance for good looks but in my opinion this is a loose loose situation. Definately not for a CVO Fatboy!

Sorry buddy
Cheers

I think he's referring to a crossover tube to balance and scavenge the exhaust.  Or maybe an extra prop to keep upright after all those pints of Guinness [smiley=drink.gif]

Well, their are a lot of good sounding pipes out there.  How loud and good sounding do you want to go...  For mid db range and good sound with a dual pipe on the fatboy I like the Python, they sit below the passenger footpeg and have a good sound coming a going.  Performance is pretty good and you will need a race tuner or commander to tune them to the bike.

For performance and great look I like a 2 into 1 pipe as this scavenges the exhaust best to provide the best performance.  The best pipe in this area in my opinion is the Thunderheader (I have them on my CVO).  They are louder than most but have the very best sound imaginable.  Everyone say they sound like a Harley is supposed to sound.  They also provide the best performance when tuned in right.
