Initial thoughts / impressions on my 2009 SERG
« on: March 12, 2010, 02:10:45 PM »

Feedback and advice welcomed!!

After seven days, I have some initial thought, questions, and comments.  I swapped on a chopped tour pack, hard lowers, Corbin, Motolights, and CB from my 2008 last Sunday.  Bad weather here , so just hit 500 yesterday afternoon.  Now I can at least take it up to redline.

First the negative….

1.The 110 is not (yet) what I thought it would be.  I was disappointed in my 96 as well, I guess the days of low end torque (2000 rpm) are behind us in factory engines.  I’ll install a pair of  Rineharts and a TTS this weekend and see what shakes out.

2. Sure hope these bags don’t drag.  I am a very aggressive twisty rider, and am used to dragging board (right side) and kickstand (left), but that far back is a bad place to make contact…

3.The bike is not as agile and quick as my 2008.  I can attribute that to weight and the handlebars?  I prefer the stock bars I had on my o8.  Where did we gain the additional 94 lbs.  of weight?  Too much chrome

Positive:
1.The 110 does have more torque than the 96, so the pipes and tune should help.

2.Looks, Fit, Finish are incredible.

3.Chassis is much more stable than the 2008, even with a stabilizer installed

4.Gearing is much better than the 2008.

It always takes a few weeks to “gel” with a new bike, so I am sure we will.  I just hope it proves to have the awesome handling in the tight stuff that made me love my initial Road Glide.

Sounds like you're on the right track.  Advice?  Peruse the older posts here!  Lot's of good info.  But most of all... ENJOY!

And while I'm thinking about it:   :worthless:

Nogood, I've only got 750 on mine .(I'm sure the wifes mad about me bying it as the weather went to crap in Ks as soon as i got it home in oct.!!! ) I came from a strong 88, an 06 FLHXI ,this motor is both stronger and HOTTER .Cant' wait to get the 1K service done and put a tuner and pipes on it to cool it down.

Love the handeling. Rock solid compared to the street glide.I routinely ground down the boards on it.

It's probably not broke in and loosened up. takes a thousand. Tune it up and dump the cat. Any thing you do will improve the potential. I have 150 plus HP and it runs a smooth as a silk and... no internal engine mods, stock cam.  :drink:

From an 06 RG,  I was blown away by the better handling and agility of the 09.  And no,  the bags wont drag,  my footboards are ground down and I've never rubbed a bag.

The bags do touch the ground sometimes , especially at right hand turns , but first the floorboard and the floorboard-bracket (that`s the reason why i didn`t want to have the floorboard-extensions , they would cause a earlier ground touch).

Yes, and after that day she'll never be with me when I'm second or third in line. I'll be in the back of the line with all the slow pokes. I still have the claw marks in my neck and sides from that ride. ..................Fuzz :nervous:

Slapped the Rinehart slip ons just now, sounds great and runs better.  Hope to install TTS by end of the week, then order the bit to drill out the Cat...

Do yourself a favor and either send your head pipe to fullsac or cut the whole cat out yourself. Don't just drill it.

I planned to use the 1.6 Core Bit I saw on the site, looked to do a pretty good job?

You won't be able to get it all out with just a core bit.  Take Fireguys advice....you'll be better off in the long run

Are people having issues with the drilled version?  I expect I'd go to Vance and Hines Power Duals  at some point anyway..

Highwaystar...........I think you had your jackpot header ceramic coated.  Being its of stainless steel construction, would it have to be ceramic coated ??

Find a 96" head pipe from a friend or ask your dealer for some names of people that just changed pipes and offer them 50-100 bucks.

not sure how much the Jackpot header is, but if you were going to get it ceramic coated, why not just get the fullsac x pipe, which is the same design, but already comes ceramic coated?
