License Plate Bracket 05 SEEG
« on: February 02, 2006, 06:20:18 PM »

Does anyone have any ideas for a license blate bracket (Chrome frame) for an 05 SEEG.  I've tried a couple and can't get any to fit (because of the close distance between the plate mount and the tail light bar).   Any ideas???? [smiley=nixweiss.gif] [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I bought Harley part # 59863-94T for mine, it was the only one I could find that would fit.

Any chance of some pics.......I've looked at several,  and they're either too tall on top to fit or cheap as hell looking.  You'd think for $30K they'd put a chrome bracket around the stupid thing.

Spyd,
Dunno who made it (maybe ProOne).  I get all kinds of take off's.......Stuff seems to happen around here all the time.  I supply the booze,  and tools,  and do the work,  and people leave their old parts........( I love this stuff though.....kinda like therapy with out the big bill every week),  kinda relaxing after a day of shootin electrons down a tube all day and then figurin' out what happened when they hit some piece crap that we're looking at trying figure out if we acheived our desired outcome (maybe some day we'll figure out how to make a mini reactor that will make fossil fuels obsolete........(picture sticking a slug of magnesium in your gas tank some day and going 2000 miles on it..........it could happen).

OK,
Lets get back to this SUBTOTBF.   What exactly is it's purpose.  I didn't take mine off ,  the bike went in for service and a rear fender (was dinged at delivery) and never saw it again.  You guys gotta remember that the local stealer (SAN DIEGO) here employs the absolute worst whrenches on the planet.  You pick your bike up from a service,  pay them big bucks to do it,  and then have to go home and fix everything they screwed up. Not kidding,  day after a service,  out in the desert,  a spark plug falls out....no sh$t.  A new joint just opened a little north of here,  so I'm giving them my business in the future (and taking anyone I can with me).  If your ever passing through So. Cal and need anything done to your bike......Take it up to Biggs Harley Davidson in Escondido  (only about 20 minutes north)  Any way, did the SUBTOTBF have a purpose????

Beagle, scroll back up and look at that picture of your rear license plate.  Just below it you see the head of the attaching hardware that goes through the fender.  The SUBTOTBF covered that head and indented area.  The 04 SEEG riders got an actual emblem to do that.  In 05 we got an ugly little round plastic disc.  The 06 bikes went back to using the same emblem that the 04 riders got.  But it's a VIN protected part and Harley won't sell it us 05 guys.

Nice,
Gotta love when they do that......   Now I have neither.   I put a rubber piffel pad on the fender to keep the bracket from banging the fender,  but now that you guys mention it.....I don't like the look with out something there.  Any ideas??? >:( >:( >:(

Billet Boys has out a new kit for our type bikes which will reposition the plate holder slightly lower and completely cover the SUBTOFT. Then you can pick out and any of thier plate bracket's for a completely chromed finished look. I saw one setup they have at the V Twin Expo using L.E.D.'s in the bracket for additional lighting which can act as turn signal/brake light enhancements...... [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Maybe HD Dude has the part number's and some photo's?

I'm just curious, why do people hide thier plate number? When they post a picture? What is someone going to do with it? You cant hide it driving down the road. Not being sarcastic here, but, I have never understood that.

There were a few different small fender or tank emblems used when this first got chatted up a year or so ago.

I'm just curious, why do people hide thier plate number? When they post a picture? What is someone going to do with it? You cant hide it driving down the road. Not being sarcastic here, but, I have never understood that.
Hi CVO owner,
It is more a matter of exposure. Going down the road it is harder for most folks to write down your info for future use and in one day your plate may only be visible to maybe a couple of hundred maybe a few thousand of people. When you post your info on the web it is of course worldwide and can be coppied by other people and it lasts probably for ever.
Someone looking to steal may love your bike as much as you do and the more info you give away on the web the easier it makes it to locate your pride and joy. It also gives the thief a shoping list of all the performance parts and chrome you have added. I know everyone says they have protection with their Glock or a 12. gauge etc. but face the reality are you there 24/7 around your bike or is it left alone some times?
Before the information age would anyone have thought twice about,
"What can anyone do with my birthdate?"
"I don't mind giving away my phone number."
And many other innocent bits of info.
Ask anyone who has been the victim of idenity theft if they minded their personal info being used!

I found one by accident at an Iron Horse dealership by Custom Chrome.....it was $6.  Sure it was stamped, but at least it fit.  Someday I'll find a decent one with blind fasteners.
One that will be cool is the Kuryakyn rounded plate holder for Softails.  Throw away all the misc parts and keep the frame.  Haven't seen one up close to hold it up to the bike, and at $60 I'll let a dealer bring one in first.

Is the 06 one not the same, Firedood?

Can I ask, is the fender the same, for fitting this as for fenders that take a lighted fender tip?  (What I mean is, there are no different/extra holes in the fenders that take the illuminated tip, are there?)

Jim, the fenders that take the fender tip light have a hole (1/2") for the wire (big enough for the connector too) and a pair of smaller holes for the mounting screws that go through the light itself.

Cheers

Your bike is UK spec Dave - so you have that ugly number plate bracket they fit.  My question was intended to work out whether removing that and moving it up to the US position would be OK just fitting the badge we're discussing here, or whether there are extra holes.  Had your number plate bracket off yet, and if so - does your fender have the extra holes?

Yes and yes - there will be the extra holes but you can cover them with a fendertip light

Same holes for the nasty HDI plate carrier are used for the fendertip light from what I can see.

The UK spec rear fender is a different part # to the domestic for the 05SEEG and I guess the holes are the difference

I have a US spec rear fender in the garage off a 06 ultra (but not a SE) so I will double check tomorrow but I'm pretty sure they (MoCo) are going to minimise inventory if possible and the tip light and HDI bracket will be interchangeable on the fender

If I have time I will offer the both items up and take some photos so you can see.

If it's a real problem for you, you will need to get a US Spec fender in primer and have it sprayed - shouldn't cost more than

Jim, I just thought of something else.

The SUBTOTBF that gets talked about here is of course to cover the "rivet" for the rear fender brace

This is the brace that is pretty much hidden but fastens to the "rivet" on the inside of the fender and also to the bottom of the side struts/saddle bag lower rails

On non CVO bikes (and maybe Road Glides) the rear bumper did the same thing i.e located and secured the bottom of the fender to stop it flapping around

On the HDI fender the No plate bracket or tip lamp covers this "rivet"

I am actually also looking for the same solution as you ie the US spec indicator bar with built in illumination and bracket to mount the No plate up higher under the tail lanmp but this is so I can mount a tow ball for my trailer

Ho Hum - it would be no fun if it was all perfect out of the box - would it?

Cheers

You don't need to change the indicator bar, Dave. It's the same worldwide.  What I did on my current ultra was just take of the daft ugly number plate bracket and lamp, fit (went straight on using existing holes) an illuminated fender tip (power came from the lead for the UK number plate light), change the rear light lens for one (from ebay) with the clear window on top, and fit a small sized number plate and chrome surround above the rear light, exactly the same as the US bikes. I also got the number plate mounting plate black powder coated, which looks a million times better. Illegal, of course, due to the number plate size, but I've never been pulled up for it in three years and 18000 miles.  See attached photo.

Jim, we are talking about different indicators here

On the 05SEEG we have the "Bullet" style lamps rather than the "pancake" style

Yes, I know Dave - but I assumed the lamp bar on HDI models would be the same. On the HDI ordinary one, the "differences" are that lenses are E-marked, that's it!  Looks from your diagram as if it's a different shape on the SEEG

Thanks Firedood.  It's beginning to look as if the fender itself is going to be different on the HDI bikes, so there may not be anywhere to fit it...  :(

I think we are going to need to have the equivalent pages from the 06 CUSE parts book posted so we can get the definitive answer.

Since your top box (Tour Pak) is not QD and your plate is up under there like on the "old" models and you don't have the stealth rack getting in the way you will not need the downlighting light bar like the 05 SEEG so you may well be right and the item will be the same for HDI and Domestic

No, cos it has the bullet turn signals - it'll be different again from the 05 SEEG, though I'd guess it'll be the same as yours.   Wonder why they didn't fit the same one to HDI models using the US number plate mount, instead of that ugly thing they do fit.....

The combinations of fender holes, light bars, number plate mounting, and Cloisonne fitting capability is getting REALLY confusing!  Having looked at the 05 US SEEG

Agreed, it is not too pretty, but on the bright side, just take off and throw away the lower plate mount, fit a nice tip light to cover the holes and your Kuryakyn smoked laydown LED tail light with uplighter then mount your small UK plate up under the tour pak.

Piece of cake old boy

Thanks GRC, thanks Fired00d.  Looks like the light bar is the same on HDI and Domestic CUSE, but the fender is different. Damn! I didn't want to have to fit a fender tip, I just wanted to make it look like the domestic models with the Cloisonne!  :'(

Jim,

I can't tell for sure from the photo, but it looks like you could use the cloisonne where the top screw goes, and then you only have to deal with the two bottom screw holes.  If there's nothing else hidden behind that bracket, perhaps a good body person could fill and paint the two holes?

Thanks Fired00d - that's a perfect one.  I've got the big ugly black bracket off my current Ultra in my hand, and from it it looks like, the fender on my new bik will have three holes.  If I can get the Cloisonne (which remains to be seen!) it might cover the centre one, which will be a bigger, centre hole, a couple of inches above the other two, and the two lower ones can be filled by nice chrome bolts or something.  Failing that, I guess it'll have to be a fender tip job....

Hi Jim - that's what I told you you'd have to do...

Just so you know - I'm up and running now - and wow, how well does she run!!!

100+Tq and 95+ Bhp

I seem to be going everywhere at 80

Cheers

Thanks for the interest JR, it's nothing special - V&H true duals and oval slip ons , S/E backplate, Arlen Ness filter and outer plate and PCIII.

3.5 hours on the dyno and it runs sweet - no popping at all

The figures aren't too shabby - 100.5 Tq and 95.3 hp (SAE corrected at sea level) but the main thing is how it feels - it just wants to pull and pull.

I'm experimenting with screens and seats right now but I know that I'm going to have to sort out the front suspension real soon.

It seems that if I'm off the motorway and on the back roads, I bottom out the front end over every drain cover and bump which is kinda wearing after a while.

I guess I need to do a search on the site for the best "bang for buck" improvement

Cheers

Dave

I had my bike dyno'd before the Zipper cams and exhaust change I made. I was running screamin eagle pro mufflers, SE back plate w/K&N air filter and download and my numbers were similar to yours. I believe he said 92hp and 100 tq. I am awaiting my Zipper ECM which will be here Tues then I will see what improvements were made with cams, and D&D fatcats.

I went with Screamin Eagle oil in front end and this has helped. It still can bottom but not as bad.
