Why did you buy your Deuce?
« on: February 09, 2006, 07:48:23 AM »

Trying to create a little activity here since the FXR board is having more conversations!

My first HD was a 1997 Road King.

But there have been more recent conversations there and they even have me thinking it would be nice to ad an FXR to the stable!

Deuce vs. FXR?

Hmmmm, now that's a tough one. I do believe that the the Deuce is a more complete "custom" cruiser. I like the color matched frame, the chin spoiler, matching custom wheels, and "hard-tail" look.

But, if it comes to riding, I'll take the FXR (2/3/4's). I know they didn't get the big inch engine. But the handling of the compact, well suspensioned, frame is great. I have a springer softail that is tough to get used once I've been riding the FXR for a while.

But enough of this posting on the Deuce forum....I have to go back to the FXR pages and keep us alive. lol....

Riding the Deuce is a completely different experience, but not difficult to go between.  When I took it home the first day the biggest thing I noticed was the tendency for the front wheel to flop over to the left side.  Never experienced that with the RK.  Other than that, the quickness and the wind are the difference.  The SEEG spoils you with the fairing...85mph is nothing.  On the Deuce, you feel 85...never been over 100...on the SEEG I know I was at 118 in Maggie Valley...watching everyone else pull away from me!

Hey Ron, you think it's tough switching between the FXR and a softtail, try a GeezerGlide (FLH) and a SoftTail.

Spyd,

I know what you're saying! I don't take my FLHR out all that often (mostly long trips). But when I get off of it and go back to the FXR or Springer, it feels like I'm on a dirt bike. I'll be taking the FXR to Tombstone next month....I've never been out on a long trip with it before. Should be interesting....

But hey! I'm posting on that damn Deuce forum again! Need to get back to the FXR page...lol....

WFP,

I guess I'll chime in.  I love the deuce!  It's comfortable, it gets stares everytime I ride it and I've had mine up around 120mph in Utah (with H-D sport windscreen) and it wanted to go some more but we ran out of straight asphalt without oncoming traffic on the two lanes.

Take care!

Let's see...I flew into Rochester, New York on a business trip and had to spot in the local HD Shop to get a T-Shirt to add to the collection my wife says numbers in the 1000s, weel on the floor was a left over 2003 Screaming Eagle Duece.

Needless to say my $34.00 T-Shirt transitioned into a shirt costing over $20,000 + Dollars.  It was February and it was snowing and the 2004 Dueces were out already so I got a deal I could not refuse....told the wife about it when I had to return to Rochester with my truck and Trailer to pick it up, she understood my weakness!

Great bike to cruise around, not for long distances....

Napalm,

Very interesting story you have...

I was in Syracuse, NY for work and on my way home in late November of 2003, I stopped at "The Cycle Stop" HD dealership in Rochester, NY to kill some time and get a shirt.
