CVO Colors Not Protected...................
« on: May 08, 2010, 08:59:35 PM »

How serious is the motor company about protecting the CVO line/colors?  Here is why I ask.  While out visiting local HD dealerships today I came across a "standard' FLHX with CVO Tequila Sunrise skins on it.  When I asked a salesman, he said that someone bought a CVO Tequila Sunrise but would only take delivery on it if the dealer swapped out skins from one of the other "standard" street glides.  It seems that the buyer was only interested in the 110ci motor and all the chrome.  I really don't have an issue with that but what I do is the dealer put the CVO colors/skins on the "standard" street glide and plan to sell it.  Two major issues come to mind: 1. The CVO line looses some of its status if a standard bike is allowed to sport CVO restricted skins.  As a CVO owner I have a major problem with the line becoming less exclusive.  2. The individual that buys this faux CVO will not be able to buy purchase color matched replacement parts because the VIN will show that he/she does not actually own a CVO.  Please, let me know what the thoughts are on this issue.  This smells and I'm sure the folks in WI would not be pleased.

The dealer should have refused and added the option to sell ( order ) extra skins of any color they wished. Just my 2 cents.

I agree.  The dealer should have sold the CVO "as is" and had that individual order new skins.  What he does with the TS skins is up to him and I would have gladly bought them for mine.  The dealer should not be in the business selling these CVO parts to non-CVO owners.  Hell, I couldn't keep my defective CVO seat when the new one came in.  I had to hand the original over before I could get the new one in my grubby paws.

My local dealer, who didn't sell me my 09 SERG, ordered and sold me a new front and rear fender for the 09. No VIN, no surrender of the old parts.

Not sure what to think  :nixweiss: I am surprized that a dealer can & would do this with restricted parts.  :nixweiss:

First thought, why automatically assume a motorcycle or car salesman is telling you the truth?  After reading this thread so far, I'm amazed that no one has mentioned the possibility that this salesman was less than 100% accurate.

Second thought, why would anyone who has ever dealt with a Harley dealership be so surprised that $$$$ outweighs doing the right thing or supposedly protecting the value of your CVO purchase?  Now that CVO's are produced in higher volume than some entire brands of motorcycles, I don't think even the Mothership cares all that much about maintaining the "exclusivity".

Third thought, are you certain those were real CVO skins, or could that perhaps be a copy by a custom painter?  Another person posted about a CVO paint job on a standard model not too long ago, I believe it was at Bartel's; that one was reported to be a copy.

Fourth thought, don't be so convinced that having to turn in that fender or tank with a defective paint job in order to get a new one has anything to do with maintaining exclusivity.  Those returned parts are sent back to the vendor who actually does the painting, and they "eat" the warranty cost.  They also recycle the parts, so when the next guy needs a new warranty replacement he may well be getting the repainted warranty return from the first guy.

When I bought my 05 Night Train, I wanted to put a springer fork on it.  Well, my dealer found a customer who wanted to buy a softail springer, but without the springer fork!  :nixweiss:

I can't relate to people being upset at that incident, regardless of who sold what to whom. Couldn't care less if all Harleys would have the same paint scheme as my CVO. Wouldn't happen though, as everyone is different. And this is beautifully illustrated in this thread.
