And, you walked away!  This is the single most important detail.

I'm glad you are on the mend.  Paint and chrome can be easily repaired or replaced; flesh and bone, not so much.

Just saw this.  Terrible news about the bike but certainly glad you're ok.  Your spill was only a little over an hour from my place.  There's been some poor weather and soggy roads here lately.  Hit a slick spot?

I'm glad you are OK. Were you on Hwy 14? That's just around the corner from where Scooterhair and I live.

Thanks for all the kind words.  Yes I was on Hwy 14 about 6 miles east of Ava.  Tight left hand downhill turn with reverse roadcrown on the right edge.   Tried to apply a little rear brake, but it slid out on some gravel.  Let off brake and steered a little right to catch it, and by then I was at the edge and going just into the grass.  Alot of things going through my mind.  Wondered about steering on down into the ditch and trying to ride up the other side to slow the bike, but then I saw a deep culvert coming up at a 90 degree angle and I decided there was no way I was going down into the culvert, so I tried to steer back up onto the road to the left but the rear tire kicked out again and I started to lay down on the left, but the bike caught and flipped me high side and sent me flying.  Landed on my back and hit the back of my head haed,  then bounced and landed on my stomach.  The bike landed on it's right side and then bouced back onto it's left side.   Looked so pathetic just laying there like a beached whale.  But the good thing is that I'll be allright.

I've ridden the bike some to check it out.  It runs fine and seems to be tracking true.  Will get it to dealer tomorrow for estimate.  I've added up some of the obvious damamge.  The fairing ($2005), saddlebags ($1594 each),  Tourpak  ($1400).   Thats $6600 right off the bat not counting the tank, exhaust, crash bar, pegs  etc and assorted scratched chrome.    I'm not sure I want the bike to be totaled though.   I'll just have to wait for the final numbers and figure it out.  I will be back on  Hwy 14 again though!  Thanks again.

I'm certainly not as experienced a rider as many of my board brothers but have observed several times that the freaking rear brake can get you in trouble more than anything else on your bike.

Ed you may be right.  I've been re-evaluating my riding style and am wondering if I got into the habit of relying on the rear brake to much when entering a corner.  I took the initial rider safety course at my dealer 2 years ago, and I remember them talking about an advanced course where you use your own big bike.  I think I'll look into that.
