"CVO" style backrest ... with updated (warranty) seat
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:19:17 PM »

Got my replacement seat in and all indicators are a good re-design. Have no miles on it yet but the install looks good for holding up without pulling from the console. I sat on it several times and it stayed in place surprisingly well.

Since I was replacing the replacement seat - I ordered the new "CVO" style backrest. Again, I wa pleasantly surprised at how well the new backrest integrated with the SESG. I've never had or used a backrest before so I am looking forward to seeing if all my buddies were right in saying I needed one. I was on the fence regarding their sencerity - maybe they just wanted me to feel the continued "pain" of a drained wallet - like I don't already!  :)

Pics are attached ... integration to the SESG I feel is spot on, install was pretty easy. The only issue was getting the alignment right for the slot in the seat - but that is ALWAYS - the "finite" adjustments required.

Anyway ... if you are thinking about getting a backrest for the stock SESG "replacement" seat, you would do well to consider the new "CVO Style" backrest:

Additional one showing that (for me) the gap issue seems to have been addressed. I did take the time to slot the holes in the rear mount tab a bit so I could put the seat a bit forward. It was maybe 1/8" at the most ....

No Mo Gap:

Very nice setup.  It looks like you have black bag guards.  What kind of pipes do you have?

Do you have a part number for the backrest?

P&A Part Number is 51839-10:

Rider Backrest Kit - CVO™ Street Glide® Style

Styled to complement the '10 CVO™ Street Glide® model, this Rider Backrest adds back support for long-haul riding comfort. Contoured backrest pad is shaped to provide full lower back support without pushing the rider forward, and the slim profile offers the passenger a few more inches of room. An adjustable support bracket with four mounting locations accommodates different seats and riding positions. The backrest pad angle can be adjusted for maximum comfort.

I have the "Comfort Profile" saddlebag guards installed so can't use the bumpers (per the H-D Service Bulletin). Pics are of the new replacement seat only. I'm interested to see how it holds up after some miles, but for now it doesn't pull away from the center console when I'm sitting on it.

The original seat that came with the bike (purchased 11/09) did.

I bought one for the King last year and have never been happier. It keeps me from slouching over on longer rides. I have one on the new SG with the same results. Great pictures.

Looks good, everyone is telling me to get one also.  Let us know how you like it after a few miles.  What was the cost?

I've got an adjustable backrest on mine now.  Do you know if the CVO backrest uses the same mounting bracket that is on the other bikes?  In other words, is it just a different style back rest?

DABB - The backrest retails for $240 I think ... not sure if the install kit was extra or not (need to pull out the invoice)

Badger - dunno, this is the first one I've ever had. Might use the same mounting but the mount plate is a different design?
