GPS Mount from 2010 Limited CVO Ultra install
« on: May 29, 2010, 10:24:23 AM »

OK, so with great help from Diamondback and RetSUBLDO I got the new dash pad Garmin mount on my 2009 Ultra and WOW! To start, here is a before picture with the 660 mounted on a TechMount off the bars;

Here is the parts listing again;

1106            Screw
1107            Screw
7686            Locknuts (2)
92346-10        Mount  (accepts garmin cradle)
92466-10        Retainer  (goes inside fairing for support)
57885-10        Pad  (dashpad specific to cradle mount, already has holes)

After removing the shield, fairing, and stock dash pad you need remove the chrome trim off the dash pad and put it on the new pad. I found it helped to get the holes lined up on the new pad to put one end on the workbench and push gently down like you were trying to bend it like a bow.

Next you will want to tape up the area that we will be drilling, even though you will be drilling from the back through to the inside of the fairing. This keeps the paint chipping risk to a minimum

Next I taped the inner support bracket in place and held it there with tape. Drill your holes from the backside through the bracket and you have your holes perfectly lined up.

Now, find the open spot on the slope for the wire harness hole. I looked for a better placement but there really isn't one. It will go through to the space where the dash pad mount hole is already drilled

Run your wire harness through the dash pad first and through the dash, install a rubber grommet in the hole for thr wireharness to prevent the harness from being cut and attach the dash pad to the fairing. I forgot to run mine through the pad first and then had to pull it out and do it all over again  :oops:

Then attach the GPS cradle to the mount, solder the conections to the power cable, tie up the loose cables and and you're done.

Now, here is the before and after pictures as taken from the riders position;

After;

I didn't think there would be a big difference for viewing it, but as you can see, there is. The new mount is more in your line of sight, almost in a HUD position. I am leaving to test ride it today, and will report later  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks CVORick, after the ride I was pleased with the results. It was easier to see the screen, no vibrations from it up there either

Spike, Thanks for the pics. especially the close up on the mount and the inner fairing. I was wondering if it would rub  and it looks like there is a small buffer between the mount and inner fairing. I keep on getting calls from my dealership and it seems like they get one part at a time.  Soon I am sure I will have it.

Yes, there is about a credit cards width between the plastic mount and the fairing. If it gets closer, I do have some 3m paint protective film here that I will slap on next time I have the outer fairing off

Nice job Spike - I'm right behind you. I was told yesterday the parts should be in mid-next week!

After doing my install I discovered one more item that'll help protect the paint on the inner fairing, 11100009  PAD, inner fairing.  The inner fairing parts diagram shows it in the area the GPS mount may contact the fairing above the dash pad.  They're currently on back order till 7/2 and go for $2.66.  Prob work better than shipping tape or some jury rig.

You don;t have to wait, just get some 3m paint protection film at most auto parts stores. Same stuff that HD will sell you, in fact, PM me your address and I will cut a nice piece from my stash and mail it to you

11100009 is that a H-D number?

It would stick to the inner fairing right where the plastic mount is. So it will be behind the dash pad so in case the plastic GPS mount was to rub on the fairing, the film will protect the paint. And, Yes I can give you a piece as well.
