Something in me just snapped!
« on: February 18, 2006, 07:59:56 PM »

Race? Me? He11 no! I'm just a cruiser...or so I thought.

Ok...I am just out for a leisure ride to the liquor store to pick up something for the wife. And on the way home I come to a light as I would any other day. And to my surprize some redneck pulls up beside me at the light in short wheel based Chevy...with all his lit gauges by the windshield and 60's in the back. I guess he heard the bike, which sounds like a big block chevy...with the D&D 2n1...and starts jumping his truck like he's going to fire off a drag line. As usuall, I just ignore it. When the light turns green...he smokes the tires...and flies up the road way ahead of me. Funny thing is, as the next light up the strip turns red...I am thinking I will have to see that nut again. Sure enough, the car in front of him turns right and I coast up to the red light in front of him. I look over at him like what the he11 was that all about. I see him laughing his butt off with his girlfriend...

And thats when it happened....Something in me snapped! I gased the bike a few times to get his attention...leaned forward in a drag position to get a response. He started reving his engine and I started reving mine. We both see that the light the other way turn yellow...knowing after red we will get our green. Buy the time the light is red the other way...this guy already has his tires spinning...and me like a nut getting my rpms up enough to jump off the line. Well the green flashes and all I am hearing is his tires squeeling and his engine. But as soon as I drop the clutch and put the gas to this bike...I see why they call it a screaming eagle. The only thing I remember is my bikes loud noise and me trying to hold on as the the damn thing was acting like it was going over hurdles as I went through the gears. By the time I was at the end of third I had to let up...as he had done conceeded and was way behind. I quickly hit fourth and fifth and resumed my normal cruise. That was a icon moment...I had just smoked his ass! By the time I hit the driveway at home...rational was back...what the hell was I thinking?  Im a cruiser! Thats my story and I am sticking to it!

Sometimes you just have to let the "eagle" soar. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

"been there, done that". Problem is, it is damn hard just to take one toke off that stoggie, you are going to need that rush again in about a week. Just don't run up against a rice-rocket, it really ruined my year :'(. Felt 100 years old.

displacing air,

I too am a conservative rider or as you say "a cruiser". I was right there with you as you described the action...."And that's when it happened....Something in me snapped"! ;D I busted out laughing, I knew what was coming next. I don't know what it is that makes us go there but it just happens. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Enjoyed reading it and especially hearing the outcome!

Sometimes you just have to be a little smarter than the red-neck...which is slightly above the IQ of a rock in most cases. I wouldnt of let him beat you off the line the FIRST time he revved up, .....be fair next time......give him a head start.  :D

Barry Barry Barry,

You lied ....  let me quote  "I don't race i just cruise the backroads ...."    yeah uh huh ....

I am very disappointed in you....  You were taunted by a Redneck and you lost your composure.   If your kids had only seen this you would never live it down nor could you set the example you want them to follow .... very very disappointed.   /sarcasm off

So Barry when do the engine mods come now that you have the fever ... you know you do ... I am here again to help you spend more money hehe .... Congrats on blowing his doors off ....
It just makes the day out that much better.

Are you coming down to Daytona ??

Well AIR,  we gents just have a little too much testosterone in us.  I think all of us like to have some fun from time to time.  My wife gets upset when I do that in my 4x4 'cause people always think a big diesel crew cab truck is slooooo. Not with with an intake, programmer for extra 100 ponies and Banks Monster exhaust pumping around 450HP!  It suprises the heck out of those little 300HP Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rice rockets tho.  Problem is that this truck needs some Baer brakes to clamp down on the speed.

Have fun & ride safe!
