(NEED HELP) Dealer replaced cylinders/pistons
« on: July 09, 2010, 08:31:10 AM »

The Dealer replaced cylinders/pistons on my 2010 SECU because of piston slap. The engine sounds great now, but the fins are darker then the stock fins. (closer to black)

Did they use the wrong part?

Sounds like they used the wrong cylinders. I would demand that the Service manager show me the part #s for the cylinders that were installed and the #s that go with the serial # for your bike.

You're trusting the service writer to have written down the incorrect part number on the work order.  He might or might not have.  You can get the part numbers from any dealer parts counter if someone here doesn't provide.  Just call and ask for "parts."

If the visual difference is obvious and striking it's a no brainer though.  The difference between black and granite cylinders is so distinct that such a mistake is really a dipchit error.

Except the granite for 2010 is slightly different from past year's granite. It would be easy to get them confused.

It does not look like the black, but is darker than the original granite. Was the granite darker prior to 2010?

I spoke with the dealer and they used part #17454-08.

The parts department verified that it is the correct part and was the same for 2009 an 2010. The only problem I am having is that it is not the correct color (darker).  :(
