Wheel Weights
« on: July 26, 2010, 08:13:00 AM »

Hey Guys - I need a little assistance.  Last evening as I cleaned my SERG I noticed my rear wheel weight hanging on by the slimmest of margins; looks like some type of double sided tape.  I marked the area exactly and now I need you help in directing me to the tape or whatever I need to use to put that weight back on. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just take the weight strip to a wheel shop and get a replacement. Most likely they will just given it to you. I would go thru the bother of buying 2 sided tape to salvage the one you have.

I would not try to reuse the weight.  They're cheap...  Go to a high volume tire shop (lots of turnover - so the weights should be relatively new) and buy new weight.  Clean the area thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol (very important).  Apply the new weight with pressure (very important)...

Applied properly, the weights will stay on...they can actually be difficult to remove if applied properly.

(In my youth, I worked for Goodyear Racing...  Mounted/Balanced thousands and thousands of wheels/tires all over the country...mostly in killer heat and humidity.  I learned I never ever wanted to work that physically hard again....ever....lesson learned)

SADUNBAR - I cleaned and prep's my rim this morning; later today I'll stop by a local tire shop, buy the new weights, and put them on.  Thanks for the advice.
