Good Pictures Of The New SEURG Windshield???
« on: August 23, 2010, 09:11:27 AM »

I have a '09 SERG and as you probably all know, the windshield has been a BIG issue for most of us.

I would like to see some pictures of the new SEURG windshield.  I'd also like to have a measurement from the top of the speedo/tach head units to the top of the windshield.

I think the new SEURG has a different windshield than the new Ultra Road Glide, I think it has a flip or recurve to the top of it.  I have a stock '09 Road Glide windshield on my SERG and it works a lot better than others, but it has no looks at all; ugly...  I'm thinking the new stock Ultra Road Glide windshield is nothing more than the windshield I have now.

Does anyone here with a new SEURG have any riding reports on how well the new windshield works?

Thanks in advance...

Dan,

Worth Harley Davidson, Kansas City, MO has a SEURG on the floor if you are up to a road trip. Been there for the past several weeks so take your time, it doesn't look like it is going anywhere very fast.

Thanks for the heads up on the Worth HD SEURG.

I understand my dealership, St. Charles HD, has "some" SE's on the floor this week so I may stop by there one night this week on the way home.

It sure does suprise me that there have been no postings of the new windshield from any of the new owners here.

Thanks again Retired..

I just made a deal to trade for a new 2011 SEURG Charcoal/BLK IF we can find a different windshield.  Wife and I LOVE the ride, the seat and the handling but wife gets her head beat up too much with the wind.  SEURG windshield is different than Ultra Road Glide but is more streamlined and does not have recurve which is what I thiink it needs to lift the airflow above rider and passenger.  This is the seventh new Harley we have bought from him and Dealer is committed to find what we need to get the deal done.

Looks like they want to make a fortune on that bike, as that is way over MSRP.

I just got the 2011 SERGU.  I'm 5'10" and the stock windshield is fine for me looking over (about 1" shorter would be perfect).  Love the bike but my wife does get the wind right in her eyes.  I'm considering other windshield options.  Anyone got any suggestions?  I'm assuming something with a re-curve would help since I would rather not go any higher on the windshield.

Had the exact same issue, got a Kuryakyn light smoked one and wife is happy.  It's a bit taller than I really like but I'm ok with it.  I do like the style and looks of it.  If I ever do anything different I'll get a Clearview.  I hear they are good,

I've been on mine for a couple weeks and this windshield works really well.  At 70 very little to no wind disruptio in the face.  also about 4 inches above midtank there is a dead zone that actually has no moving air.   Between the windshield and the new air baffles it is the best out of all my RG's and also the Ultra Ltd.  Didn't ask the wife because she was smiling too much!

I have a 2011. I am 5'10.5" tall and I look over it fine. The wind buffeting for me and my wife is noticeably more than our Ultra. We just got back from about 120 miles today and both had love bugs plastered on the top front of our helmets, something that didn't happen on the ultra with a stock shield also. Most of the buffeting for me is around my ears and as mentioned the top of my head.

I received a new shield from Clearview on Friday. I installed it tonight and have my 1000 mile service tomorrow in Tampa which is 100 miles away. I will get a good test on it then. One thing I noticed is the shield I got from them has the old style (pre 2011) gasket the fits on the bottom. The new one (stock) incorporates the Gasket into the rubber one that fits between the shield and the bike. I took some pictures and will email them to them tomorrow. The next time I have the shield off, I will reinstall the stock gasket as it should work fine.

My measurement with the stock shield from the top of the gauges was 12". This one is sold at 12.5" but is actually 12 3/8" on mine. I was actually wanting one about 11.5" but didn't want to wait on it plus they cannot be returned if you custom order.

The install went a lot smoother than I expected. I hate hate hate messing with a Road Glide windshield. The instructions were pretty cut and dry and they actually ship the shield with one of the grommets installed on it so you can see how they are supposed to go. The shield seems firmer than the stock which wobbled a bit when idling. I will post some comments and pics tomorrow when I get back home.

New shield is much, much better! Absolutely no wobble at idle and I baaaaarely notice it is any higher. Almost no buffeting now (200 miles on the interstate yesterday). I am at work and have no pics here but wanted to get back on my ride with the new shield. Doesn't look much different than the stock one other than much thicker and solid. Nice quality as always from Clearview.

Rob,
which shield did you purchase from clearview?
If you can post a few pictures I would really appreciate it.
Note: I purchased & installed a windvest (12" I think) prior to a NewEngland area trip with the standard roadglide windshield gasket (per their directions)and the contour of the lower part of the winshield did not match the contour of the fairing where they meet (very noticeable gaps 3/8" + on both side of the center hump) took it off prior to leaving and reinstalled the OEM shield. Contacted Windvest and explained, they said to return for full refund including return shipping, very nice people to deal with.

Thanks

Just their standard stock 12 1/2" shield. I was able to get my wife's input yesterday. We rode down to Mikers on the turnpike and she said not much difference to her than the stock. Still gets some good wind in her ears (left one in particular). Could have been the wind as the tropical storm was nearby. We will get some more input today as we are heading on down to Key West. My pics are at home on my other computer. I will see if I can snap a couple with my phone and figure out how to load them with this iPad.

As I mentioned before, I myself really like this shield. I am hoping today will bring better results for her. If not I may be looking at trying that one from Kuryakin.

Since my pic sharing website uses flash and the iPad doesn't I am using my phone to log on to the site, download the pics to share, copy the URL location, then coming back here to paste...all on that tiny phone and as most of you can probably attest to.... the ole eyes ain't what they used to be! So if you have any questions just ask.

Thanks for the pictures.
I have owned a few Clearview Shields(GT Small, Stock and Large sizes), and can personally say they are excellent windshields and people to deal with, I had their shields on my 05 and 07 roadglides. I've been having recent conversations with them regarding a custom height shield and was leery on the fitment against the fairing, especially after I tried the Windvest. It looks like the Clearview fits fine with the use of the older style gasket. I'm also height limited 5'9" and found that the Stock size shield was best for me (solo) on my '07' RG with a reach seat, could see over the shield fine, but with the raising of the fairing (7/8") by HD and the fact that I do not want to change seats and lose the "hammock/heat' seating. I'm looking for a 10" height windshield with a recurve. Currently I'm dealing with the short leg syndrome 32", tried the new street glide lower hydraulic shocks and they lower the rear approximately 3/4" and the ride is very good but need another +/-3/4" to have solid footing while backing up when parking and at stops where the roadsurface is at an incline or slopes off, I'm leaning towards Legends Air Supension shocks.
