vent on gas tank of '11

Does anybody know why they moved the vent location on the '11 from the welded forward fitting to a fitting in the tank cover?  It appears to be a little larger and removable.  I remember my '10 surging badly near the bottom of the tank.  Maybe they needed to get more vent because the 110 sucks so much more fuel??  Any engineers out there???  Pork
