Gold Key - Etc.
« on: November 20, 2010, 06:48:29 PM »

I've read several posts where owners indicate they got the gold cvo commorative key with their bike.  Question is, did you buy it, did the dealer throw it in as part of the deal, or did it come standard along with the bike cover?  I didn't receive one - just the bike cover - so I'm checking to see if it was "accidentally" misplaced by the dealer or I overlooked it somewhere.

But this is just one of several problems I've encountered.  You don't even want me to begin about the problems I've had with HDFS.  I have to call them each month to credit my acct - they keep posting my payments to a previous bike that was financed.

Love the bike - it's scheduled for new pipes, HB, and tune here one of these days.  Just waiting for the truck to arrive to carry it through the snow to the dealer. Ha Ha.

Ride safe.

Mine came with the bike when I picked it up, as with all the other goodies.

Thanks.  I'll contact the dealer next week and inquire as to where the key may be.

And chywy, understand that this is a genuine key uniquely keyed to your bike.  it will actually lock/unlock your ignition and forks.  Pork.

Well, mate, you got 2 items that I don't think they throw in up here.  At least i didn't get either of those 2 items.  I did, however, locate a (supposed to be) sealed, waterproof envelope to put my owner's manual, registration, insurance card, etc. in.  Guess they figured I would have to make do with the leather saddlebags.   glad you are getting good weather now.  Ours is just starting to really go to pot.  (that's bad).  Maybe, beings we almost always start taking delivery on our new bikes up here in the late fall, early winter, maybe they ought to throw in a chrome-plated thermometer and a leather-handled snow shovel......with conchos......yeH, that'd be cool.       Pork

Glad to hear you found neutral - I thought it was just me - you need a real fine touch to stick it in neutral on my bike as well.  -
I'm changing out the pipes as well and adding a heavy breather - at over 6,000 ft in elevation - I need all the air I can get - I'm also tuning the bike - it does run a bit warm - even though I'm thinking the heat from the bike would be appreciated on a snowy day like today.
Cheers to down under - ride safe and enjoy,

What is the purpose of that gold key anyhow?  My wife said it's to make fools feel better about the big rip-off they just purchased.  Mine sits in a drawer somewhere.  Does anybody think I could sell it?  What do you think it's worth?  I could use the money to buy something useful like beer or a slinky little nighty for the MRS.

Your wife is closer than any of us would like to think. You can sell the key for $35-50 on ebay if you wish. That should get the Mrs. something you can both enjoy at Victoria's Secret.

Spoke with the dealer today and mentioned that I didn't receive a gold key with my bike. Conversation went something like this:
"Well it should have been in the bags along with the cover" was his response.
It wasn't - and I just learned that there was supposed to have been a key along with the cover.
"Didn't we give you a really good deal on that bike?"
No, and what does that have to do with the key.
"Well let me see if I can find one - you realize that they are all alike and don't really do anything - they are not specific to one bike"
Really, I said - I thought they were - that's why I figured you had a key laying around here that belonged to my bike.
"No" - but I'll look around and give you a call.
Great! I'll stop by on Saturday and pick it up.  End of conversation.
Guess we'll see.  It's the principle of the matter to me.

Chy, your dealer is absolutely incorrect!  Each gold key is individually keyed to just your motorcycle!  It fits not only the ignition but your forks as well.  On an '11 it fits the saddlebags.  He needs to get your key!  Pork.

Stopping the kidding for a moment.  If a dealer knowingly kept a key (any key) to my bike and couldn't or wouldn't return it I'd be on the phone to Harley customer relations demanding a full set of locks and keys to rekey the bike.

I realize this isn't any great epiphany.  But your dealer is a putz.....

And to be fair to the dealership, I shouldn't lump all the employees into the same group.  The SALESMAN that sold the bike to me - is probably - how do you say "Lacking  specfic knowlege about the product he is selling" - I could have asked half a dozen other employees and probably gotten 3 I dunno knows - and 3 who knew the key was specific to the bike.  What galls me is the factual face the salesman put on the falsehood as it left his lips.  Makes you wonder.
But I can't say I've ever been on any car lot or bike shop where I believed everything any salesman had to say.  Generally if you want the truth about a car or bike you got to talk to the guys working the wrenches.
Thanks for all the information.

I'm still waiting on my key.  Supposedly they found two keys - and were trying to determine which one was mine.  HA HA!  You just have to love hearing excuses.

Well, each bike has its own code.  I needed that code when I bought a lock for my trunk so it would accept my regular/gold key for the bike.  Only one key will fit your bike.  shouldn't be a difficult process to find your key.  Yes, I believe dealers invented the "excuse".  Ha!

Mine came in it's own black box and on the box was the number that also matched the keys on the key ring they gave me for the bags. See the little black tag that is on the key ring and read the number on it. They should match.
Plus it will work just like the regular keys as far as locking the front end or the bags.

When I took my new CVO home from BIG St. Charles HD in St. Charles, MO the saleman, sales manager, service manager and the sales floor manager came over to present my wife and I with the Gold Key. Each of them congratulated us, shook our hands and thanked us for purchasing a CVO from them. That kind of customer attention is probably why they are killing the other dealers in the area.

And YES, it is keyed specifically to my CVO.
