Inner primary seal weeping
« on: March 27, 2006, 10:14:37 PM »

I thought that the MoCo came out with a new seal a couple of years ago to "fix" this problem.

Dan,
Get a tube of "HYLOMAR" (the stealer should stock it).  It's nothing more than a gasket dressing compound (kinda looks like a clear blue SNOT, only stiffer),  but it sure does help things get seated.  I just did an inner primary and chrome starter on my cherry bomb,  and rode her pretty hard for a few,  and it's as tight as a frogs a$$.
Good luck...

BTW,   put a little of that blue SNOT on the flat spots on the inner before you torque them down.....Just a thought....

All the Best....

There are lots of Inners out there with surface variations where the primary mounts to the motor casing. Especially after chroming. My suggestion would be to run a flat gauge across both the motor and the primary before installing to check. At least you'll know what your dealing with. Also, don't forget a thin coating of high temp auto grade silicon on the inner primary bolts. Not sure if the MoCo has a new rubber o-ring for the inner promary, but there is a new combo metal-silcon gasket between the inner and outer. :-X

DDL,

If you have the inner primary off you could choose to put a chrome starter in you could choose to change to the 24 / 37 gearing  (337 gearing stock= 315).   6 speed transmission would also be another good idea if the inner primary is already off.

Always here to help spend your money :)

Hmmm, I'm going to be very particular about what I call you for help on, sounds like you've been looking at my "wish list". [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

D00d, your wish list may not be as pregnant as you think!  With the way the new cams are going to move the torque curve in so much earlier the six speed will likely play quite well with the stock gearing.  So there's a bit of money that can be saved.

Ah hell, who we kidding, it can be spent on other chrome.....
