Production Numbers
« on: March 27, 2006, 11:34:09 PM »

Here in Southern California we get a monthly rag called "Friction Zone". I was just sitting here reading the April issue, and what is this, another review of the FLHTCUSE! This one by Neale Bayly, good review, likes the bike (All you have to do is ride one). They gave him a HAZE for the test. But I have a question on a quote in the article, "CVO Director Jim Hoffman tells me that they will produce a total of 12,000 this year, 4,000 in each of the three color choices". Say What? I can't believe they can produce so many. Please tell me it ain't so. P.S. As long as the money is on the street and people will spend it on there bikes HD will produce a number of bikes that they think they can sell.i don't think their intention was to produce a rare bike in low production numbers it just doesn't make sense for them to tool up .As the years progress I think you will see the numbers of CVO bikes stay the same or increase as demand  increases. Also I think the numbers produced of a certain model will vary based on the popularity of the stripped down "stock" model.Fatboys are very popular ,how many CVO Fatboys were produced? They are in the game to sell bikes ,I don't think they really care if a certain model re sells for a premium because of low production numbers.Thats my 2 cents.  Q [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I can't remember where I originally read it (HD press release somewhere), but they made these numbers available before the first bikes were built.

I thought it was 4000 total, not 4000 of each color! I think the wording I read was some slick marketing where you could read what you wanted to hear.

While speaking with John S. from the warranty dept. last month about...oh, I cant say, wrongway will get mad at me...he said 12k is the total run of CVO's...with about 3500 or so being Ultra's. Not saying anyone else is wrong on the numbers here, just sharing what I heard.

Hard to say, but that would be a huge leap in numbers too.

That would be a huge leap in numbers from 05.  The H-D website shows (all numbers approx.) 3,400 Fatboys 2,400 VRods 3,500 SEEG's for a total of 9,300.

compare that to the increase from 04 SEEG to 05 SEEG numbers and 12k doesnt sound that far fetched

If moco's going to produce 4000 VRSE's this year, you'll be able to buy one cheap---- this time next year! ;D :D [smiley=banana.gif]

For what it is worth, my dealer said about 4000 Ultras, with approximately 1800 of those in haze. How he came up with those numbers, I haven't a clue! [smiley=jalapeno.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif] at that rate, 12000 TOTAL SE bike would not be unimaginable. (I think Harley was looking to produce 400,000 units total in 2006.)

Not sure how the MoCo's VIN numbering system works but if you look at FR8TRN's registry the numbers span just a little over 4700 at this point. Wonder how much longer they will be shipping???? :-/

Here are a couple of articles that mention production numbers. Both were written in October 2005. I hope the links work:

Thanks Hawgwash, the numbers don't agree between articles, so who knows. I have a hard time believing that they would make 12,000 of the SE Ultra.

I felt like most of you, that 12,000 would be a VERY big leap from past numbers. The sites Hawgwash say 12,000 and 4,000 units. I am looking at a 2001 FXDWG2 with production of about 1,750, so to build up to 12,000 for the Ultra would be a streach. I still love the bike! I was always under the impression that TOTAL production was 4,000 units, just my impression. That's why 12,000 suprised me enough that I asked ya-all.  Wrongway

Could be 12,000 SE's period, not specific to the Ultra.

All they did to create the CVO bikes, other than the paint, was to delete regular production parts and replace them with parts from the accessory catalog.

I called the customer service line at Harley HQ. I spoke with "John" and asked about the numbers. Here are the "official" numbers according to the factory.

11,000 total CVO bikes

4000 Ultra's (Color amounts will vary according to demand)

3900 Fatboys

2600 Vrods

500 Vrod Destroyer's

I hope this helps.
