Ear Plugs Wired For Sound
« on: March 30, 2006, 09:23:32 PM »

During my rally visits, I have seen a number of vendors that sell ear plugs wired for sound(music).

Jock;
I moved this into the electronics forum for you...
I have seen and heard the plugs you are refering to. They work very well as the are custom molded to you ear. I know of one person that has them and they are pleased with the performance. They do after a period of time bother him though.

There are some out there that are like the BOSE headsets,  they cancel ambient noise ( I have a set for airplanes...they work pretty well).  I wonder if they'll cancel the road noise too....Just a thought....

I've got a pair from http://www.azearprotection.com/motorsports.htm  with the molded earpiece.  I've had them for a couple years now... You'll still get a little noise from the wind, or jaw movement, but the sound quality is Excellent, and they are comfortable enough to wear all day.  Can't speak to the foam ones.  They look a little cheesy.  The molded ones work great and I've worn them with or without a helmet.  Hope that helps.   8-)

After 11 hours riding from Maggie Valley to Chicago last year, my ears rang for 2 days and that was after riding with a windshield. I know some would say change the pipes but thats not an option. I have tried all sorts of earplugs and noise cancelling devices with little success, till now. 90 percent of my riding is without a windshield so I was in dire straits to find a solution.

Jock I can tell you that riding the last 2k with the earplug speakers I found at a show in Chicago, has totaly changed my riding experience. I got the NHT-HearPlugs from a company called "Now Hear This". You can find some info hear

Forgot to say...the earplugs were $199 at the show. The audiologist Marilyn was great, the earmolds feel great and work even better. I can ride listening to music from my Rio-player without even turning up the volume, very little outside noise. It takes a bit to get used to, you will probably kill the engine a few time when taking off till you get used to feeling the speed of the engine from the vibration rather than the sound.

Reo,

These guys were at the Speedway this year and I should have purchased them at that time...As always the case for me, I look for others to provide me feedback prior to me making a decision.

Think I'll check the website to see if they will be at Myrtle Beach.

I did the same thing last year wishing I would have got them. The good thing for me is the price came down from last year.

Found another company today at the Heritage Rally

http://www.bigearinc.com

On their web site they have a list of rallies contractors will be attending.  I have no knowledge of anyone owning this product.
