Ya'll all are wearin' me the *#@! out!
« on: December 21, 2010, 10:48:03 PM »

I wish I never opened up the Twin Cam thread. All I'm hearin' is how the 110" is a P.O.S. yet most of you own one! Now I ain't used to throwing 30K at a P.O.S.! I realize that HD is 'vintage' I.E. (outdated) technology, but give me 'somethin' to be proud of here damn it! I put 57,000miles on the '07 Ultra Classic 96 cu.in. in 30 months without so much as a hiccup! All I did was change fluids. She started everytime and basically preserved my sanity through a divorce! She got me back hone safe 'many' nights when I couldn't even see. And you're tellin me I traded her for a P.O.S. that needs to be trailered everywhere it goes? Gimme somethin' I can hang onto for christ sake!

The 110 is CERTAINLY not a POS......

I bought new one, and have a few posts running, on checking it out as it seems to be running a bit hot...  But look, there must be THOUSANDS of the 110's out there, and how many here on this Forum having problems?  What, 30? 40? 50? The point is probably not a very high percentage...

That and 90% of the problems seem to be in the early first few years of them, better by 09, good by 10, and I am hearing all sorted out by the 2011's....

I have a 103 and a 110, and just want to get all the ducks in a row before I let go of the 103.... Or put a 120R and swap out the 103.

Anyway, I would not stress, run it and enjoy it.

"You better not shout, You better not pout. You better not cry...."  The 09 and later 110's seem to be Okay.  Once you let them breath and get a good tune, they even make power.  22.5k and fine here.  (Knock on wood, of course.)  And your complaint was??

It's been said before and I'll say it again. They're not all a POS!! This forum exists to discuss the bad and good of our rides. My experience w/ my '09 has been very good for over 25 thousand and I expect it to do the same for many more miles. (knock on wood). Sure it runs a little hot but I've never been around a "cold" running air cooled motor. Losing the cat and a good tune were my first mods and I'm not at all upset at all about heat. I compare my 110 to the venerable 103 SE motors. My 103 was/is a real runner but it suffered more issues than my 110. To insure against the damn tensioners failing I had to put in a cam and gear drive.
Bottom line for me is that the 110, or 103, or 96 is a crap shoot. I think the odds of getting a winner are way higher than not. Ride it, enjoy it, be proud of it and if it breaks get it fixed.

I just had my 110 checked in depth after 15.000 m and I'm very pleased indeed. I had virtually no issues except one damp connector easily cured. Most reliable bike since my 95 cui FLHRCI of 2002 - and far better handling. All 110's we got in Dresden since 2008 had no problems as of today. So don't panic  ;)

I'll say it: The 110 is a POS.  I have an '07 and wish I had my '98 Evo back.  Anybody ever hear anything official from HD (not ..."heard they switched suppliers on"... but actual "We no longer use the crap _____ like we used to") about what exactly they changed to make the later ones so much better?  Mine sounds like somebody put an axe handle against the side of a wagon wheel - and it's "normal".

I got 1000 miles on my 2010 SEUC before I got a new Engine and Transmission. Runs great now in the cooler 70 degree temps but I'm still alittle sceptical about when it gets up to a 110 degrees here next spring.

I have 27000 miles on my 2010 SE5 and have had no issues.  Only been in the shop for tires.  I love it.  Had and 09 UC with the 96 and never had any problems with the engine either.  I ride in South Texas and have toured all over two up loaded on the SE5 and it has never let me down.  Best bike I have owned.

I can speak from experience since I have an '07 and now a '11 both bought new.  The '07s had way, way more than their share of problems.  But after numerous attempts at a fix (and a new motor in mine at 22k) the moco finally seems to have found the cure in the fall of '08 when they did the recall, no wait that was an enhancement, lol.  Anyway the new heads, head gaskets, base gaskets and ACRs have fixed mine.  Two years and about 30k miles later and absolutely no problems with my '07.  So I am confident that the '11 will be OK.  Only problem I am having so far is that it is HOT.  The new style exhaust is much better on my co-rider - she likes it fine.  But the way the rear cylinder pipe is  routed it sure throws up way more heat on my right thigh.

The EVO was a step forward for Harley, the 110 sounds like a step back, along with the poor quality over all. Keep your older bikes and just throw money into them!
