Does it not appear that the 'donation' tab is associated with the HD share price up there in the top RH corner?

Yes the earnings seem to be up, but sales are still behind 2009. It seems they built
less then the dealers sold too, but it looks like the dealers still have a bunch left over
from the last quarter. By reading the outlook for 2011, it seems they may ship
more to the dealers then they may want? Of coarse, I could be reading that wrong!

"Through the hard work of a lot of very dedicated and talented employees and dealers, we have made strong progress at transforming our business to be leaner, more agile and even more effective at delivering great products and customer experiences."

Full-year 2010 shipments were 5.6 percent lower than 2009. Revenue $3.14 billion, a 1.2 percent decrease compared to 2009. P&A revenue was $749.2 million, a 2.4 percent decrease from the year-ago period. General Merchandise revenue was $259.1 million, an 8.2 percent decrease compared to 2009. Gross margin for the full year 2010 was 34.2 percent and operating margin was 9.1 percent, compared to 32.3 percent and 7.3 percent respectively in 2009. U.S. retail sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles decreased 11.7 percent for the full year, while the U.S. heavyweight market segment was down 14.6 percent, compared to 2009. In international markets, retail sales of new Harley-Davidson motorcycles decreased 1.9 percent for the full year compared to 2009. The Company expects to ship more motorcycles to U.S. dealers than it anticipates dealers will sell at retail in 2011, to return aggregate U.S. dealer inventory to what the Company believes is an appropriate level. The Company has advised the unions that the Kansas City operations must become more competitive and flexible if those operations are to remain viable. The Company expects to make a decision on the future of the Kansas City operations in early March 2011. In the third quarter, the Company completed the divestiture of its MV Agusta subsidiary. For the full year, Harley-Davidson incurred a $113.1 million loss, net of tax, from discontinued operations, comprised of operating losses as well as fair value adjustments.

No wonder the CEO is pleased with the results and is optimistic.  :confused5: :nixweiss: :soapbox:

Harley-Davidson Profit Rises 37% on Increased U.S. Bike Sales
2011-07-19 11:40:10.39 GMT

By Mark Clothier
July 19 (Bloomberg) -- Harley-Davidson Inc., the biggest
U.S. motorcycle maker, said profit rose after it boosted sales
in its home market for the first time in almost five years. The
company said it will ship more bikes than previously planned.
Profit from continuing operations jumped 37 percent to
$190.6 million, or 81 cents a share, from $139.3 million, or
59 cents, a year earlier, Harley said today in a statement. The
average estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg was 72 cents.
Sales increased 18 percent to $1.34 billion.
Harley, the maker of the Fat Boy and V-Rod motorcycles, has
cut expenses by renegotiating labor contracts at factories in
Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The Milwaukee-based company also
introduced bikes, such as the $8,000 SuperLow, to appeal to new
riders. Retail sales rose 7.5 percent in the U.S. and
5.6 percent worldwide, the company said.
“While we are pleased by Harley-Davidson’s second-quarter
results, including the strong jump at retail in the U.S., our
focus remains squarely on sustaining this progress through the
ongoing implementation of our business strategy,” Chief
Executive Officer Keith Wandell said in the statement.
Harley said it now expects to ship 228,000 to 235,000
motorcycles, an increase of 8 percent to 12 percent from last
year. It had said in April that it planned to ship 215,000 to
228,000.
The company last reported an increase in U.S. sales in the
fourth quarter of 2006.

"But a relatively modest sales increase alone can't cause profits to double. The resurgence of Harley shares comes largely because of dramatic cost cuts and restructuring."

I would think they dramatic cost cuts are do to more parts being made off shore.  What d you guys think?

Doubtful.  This had more to do with the labor contracts and spin off of MV Augusta.

The biggest cost savings would be to get rid of Keith Wandell.  Millions $$$$$$ of savings in an instant.  Just sayin'... (the emoticon holding up the middle finger would go here).
