She's BAAAAAACK!
« on: February 18, 2011, 02:47:34 AM »

After many long grueling weeks without my scoot, I got a message today... (Actually, it was a picture tagged on FB from the tech)

My SERG done!... cam, lifters, adjustable pushrods, oil pump, SE compensator, new heavy breather AC, 30T and -1 belt  + new map makes me proud to own a CVO once again!

I still havent gotten into it HARD, but a few short hops says I made all the right choices....

gonna go outside and correct the speedometer and upload the new MAP and go for a late night ride.... review tomorrow!

Awesome!  Glad to see you already got to ride her too.  Would kill 1/2 the fun if you were in a state inundated by snow or something.

I was told to be nice to it for the first couple hunderd miles... being a roller cam I fail to see why but I will oblige...

First opinion:

Deeper, Throatier rumble... I am and have been running fullsac 2.25" power cores with the stock packing. Bike had a tinnier, raspier sound with the stock compression and stock cams. VERY easy to set off car alarms just cruising by... Loud and agressive when you get into the throttle.

30T and -1 belt put the bike perfectly in the powerband... at 60 (my bad) 65 I'm at 2700 RPM and some change.... in 6th. Even in 6th the rollon is amazing... no lugging, no downshifting... 65-90 comes FAST, and not even WOT blasts yet! A few more miles and I'll drop a gear or 2 at freeway speed and see what it does.... ;)

I upgraded the oil pump to the fueling race unit as I wanted OP in all conditions.... most of my riding here is under 75 (I say most, not all :) ) and a LOT in traffic... the though of the OP at ZERO for extended periods at idle does not work for me! At current, cruise at freeway speed is 32-40psi... nice... idle hot the lowest I saw was just below 16, just as the ETIMS kicked in. It was hot and humid yesterday and I got stuck in traffic...

TTS was brainless for the remap... just took me a while to refamiliarize with it... make the speedo correction and away you go!.. reminder: dont forget to turn the switch to "run", if the ignition is on and the switch off, the ecm will not accept reprogram... (duh)

I've got a couple hundred miles on the bike since the work was completed.... assuming we got all the known shortcomings I think we should be good...

The woods lifters do tick when cold... for a bit... so I start her up and let it warm-up and idle while the noises go away...

Heavy-Breather: Yes, the gurgle of the valves opening and closing is unnerving at first, until you realize what the noise is.

I'm thinking gear change for the Wife's Road King, as well as TTS and some pipes... she likes the stock appearing air cleaner... unless I come up with something interesting for a replacement...  :)

2009_,

I am very interested in your 30T conversion including your ongoing opinion after you can shake it out some more and what all was entailed, cost, etc..  I figured I'd pop for the Baker DD7 at some point ($2.5k for the unit itself).  I think I am running at about 2600rpm @70 so 2700 at 65 tells suggests maybe a 300ish rpm increase (at 70).  Sounds like a  :2vrolijk_21: so far...

Cheers,

I bought belt, pulley from Steve @ Fullsac Performance. Total for the two was about $300

You will need some sort of tuning software that is capable of making gear ratio changes to do speedo correction. I use TTS as do many others here on this site...

Very nice!  Thanks for the detailed report.  Got a dyno chart yet after all the changes?  Curious to know hp and torque.  Have had some tweaking done to mine lately and I was at 2900 rpm @ about 95 last night.

My dealer doesnt have a dyno... so we put it together with the Fullsac combo in mind (adding the Fueling OP, woods lifters) The bike is a beast though... Its perfect for riding here... 5th gear @ 65 is right at 3K.. open the throttle and are moving!

the 1000 mile review....

 :2vrolijk_21:

No complaints though I hear a metallic buzz that sounds like a heat shield loose at about 3000 RPM.. annoying, but it runs great.

So far, so good!

Fullsac Stage II MAP, Andrews 54 cams, Woods directional lifters, fueling race oil pump, Cometic head gaskets, TTS mastertune, catless headpipe, SE heavy breather and compensator, 30T sprocket and 139T belt.

As I said, no dyno yet, have almost 1500 miles on the current setup and will schedule some dyno tyime with one of 2 shops here...  but I will say I am very happy with how the bike runs and behaves.

Current update:

Weather hasnt been very cooperative lately, so I have been using the cage.. but I have still been riding as weather permits. roughly 2500 miles... time to change oil.

I do notice it seems to run a tad richer than before the stage 2. I guess I'll have to run the V-tune instructions and take a stab at it....

Mileage, a little down from before.... Stock, I got 250-270 per tank if I was being a good boy... now I get right about 200-225 regardless of my riding style.

I did a longer than normal run as I needed to attend a class in town for work, then had to run to the west office for some stuff before heading to work. It appears that the mileage is a little better on the longer run.

Just keep in mind that for me, a long run MIGHT make 40 miles in one direction... its tough living on this little rock.

Found this one..... it wound up being the exhaust bracket under the motor....

Went with Cometic gaskets .030 thickness... IIRC the stocks are .045...

With continued use, the bike is approaching 30K, and other than the funky noises it made before (piston slap) and the occasional noise from the adjustable pushrods contacting the tubes all seems to be well. The Woods "directional" lifters seem to be enduring me OK for now.

Cams make perfect, usable power, as does the 30T/139 Belt/sprocket combo... everything is in the "zone" where the bike is fun to ride again.

I do think there is oil consumption.. and I may go with a set of jugs/pistons to fix this shortly.... as well as a set of ported heads and potentially bigger cams...  but thats the life of a hotrodder.

Sorry to hear about your belt, but that right there, is what is keeping me from converting to a smaller pulley and shorter belt.  I'd love to do it but don't want to take the chance of breaking a belt on a long trip away from home. (or anywhere else for that matter)

We looked over the belt and think it may have been defective. (possibly a whole batch)

hopefully the new belt is a different brand... looking at Gates this time

Recent updates:

Replacement 139T belt came from Drag Specialties. Opened the box to find another Falcon Belt... HOWever, the belt looks to be different from the last one... I think different batch maybe?

Bike now has 31K.. so far, so good..... no smokey burnouts or attemted wheelies and no banging through the gears.

No major oil consumption in the last 5K miles.... (less than a 1/2 qt)

Had some fun playing with a 350Z on the freeway last Sunday (poor ricer boy) still pulls like a freight train.. love it.. but it seems a little rich at idle.... might fiddle with the Vtune a bit.

I did note it was a little skittery at about 110 (unless it was the crosswinds) felt like the front was wandering a bit.. TP was good.

Rear shcks seem to be losing air pressure pretty quickly now... might be time for some new shocks...

There has to be another way to do this? My buddy has an '07 and he says they changes the primary gears? I will have to talk to him and see what exactly they changed. I have about 5K hard miles on my Drag Specialties belt, I do not treat it kindly, it's holding up so far.....

Yes, you can change the internal gear ratio in the primary.. however they dont make that conversion compatible with the SE compensator which I also have. ( That has been discussed here multiple times as well)
