New Englanders
« on: February 28, 2011, 03:24:53 PM »

Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about New Englanders...

*If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you live in New England.*

*If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in New England.*

*If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you live in New England.*

*If 'Vacation' means going anywhere south of New York City for the weekend, you live in New England.*

*If you measure distance in hours, you live in New England.*

*If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you live in New England.*

*If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day and back again, you live in New England.*

*If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you live in New England.*

*If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both unlocked, you live in New England.*

*If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you live in New England.*

*If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, you live in New England.*

*If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph you're going 80 and everybody is passing you, you live in New England.*

*If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you live in New England*

*If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you live in New England.*

*If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you live in New England.*

*If you find 10 degrees 'a little chilly', you live in New England.*

*If there's a Dunkin Donuts on every corner, you live in New England.*

That's almost the same schtick he does for Minnesota.

I like New England,.......in the summer. I've been to Mass, Conn, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. All nice country. But winter,..... it's a different animal. Those are some hearty folks who live there year 'round. I remember going to a Patriots/Bills game in January. My ass was frozen to the aluminium benches in Sullivan Stadium while Steve Grogan and Joe Ferguson stood knee deep in snow on frozen astroturf throwing footballs. One of the nicest summers I ever enjoyed was up at Middlebury College in Vermont studying Spanish in their language immersion program. Then we went to Maine where my ex's father had a cabin "on a pond".

Good times, good memories.

hi i'm naitram and i'm a new englandah

Here's a couple Ed forgot

If you've driven off the road in the wintah, hit the 4WD on the fly button and kept on going without slowin down - - - you're from Maine

If you say ScALL ups  and not Scal  ups - - - you're from Maine

If you're used to driving 100 miles north out of your way to get 20 miles east to west - - - -you're from Maine

If a woman has a job, no discernable moustache and her teeth aren't bad ;marry her - - - she's a keepah in Maine

If you learned how to start a chain saw before you could ride a bicycle - - - you're from Maine

Ain't that the subject of the thread?? ;) :D... ok I'll give it to you on "Mainuh" having their own dialect of which I'm probably at 65/70% on understanding... but as long as you and Miker keep challenging my brain with it I'll continue to get better. ;D

Having travelled to the Staes 4 times I find all of the different accents interesting, I spent quite some time in Florida and expected strong Southern to be poken there but when I went north to Georgia heard real Southern spoken. In the North near the Canada border the accent was almost English in some places. I found some parts of Texas required some concentration but mainly in the rural areas. Found it all an interesting Cultural experience. Yes I can read BB's version easily and recognise the accent.
