.50 Cal close call!!!
« on: March 15, 2011, 08:48:17 PM »

I would be buying lottery tickets after this!!!         The following commentary was in the email a friend sent me.

These guys are firing into a steel plate rather than a berm or hillside.  Turn the sound up.........you can hear the bullet head back.  Watch in full screen to see it better.  This is a very, very lucky sportsman.

This guy is shooting a 50 CAL.  Watch the dust when he fires.  The target is a steel plate 1000 yards away.  You can hear the ping of the hit, and then the bullet comes back and hits the ground just in front of his position, then tumbles up hitting the earmuffs, knocking them off of his head.  The footage is amazing.  You can hear the bullet as it tumbles through the air on its course back toward the shooter.  He's lucky it hit the dirt first.  He is okay, and obviously very lucky.  The bullet grazed his temple.  What a difference a half an inch makes!

Lucky, and incredibly stupid.  Why would you use a steel plate as a target?  Planning on defending the home from tanks?

the odds of that actually happening have to be mind boggling. a projectile leaves the muzzle of a rifle, travels 1000 yards down range, strikes a steel plate and travels 1000 yards back to the rifle on the almost exact same trajectery that it traveled down range.
i'm calling bull chit on that one. :nixweiss:

Fake!

Looks real

My first impression was fake as well.  I always get suspicious when folks just happen to have a camera set up and it isn't aimed at the obvious target (why would you focus on the shooter and a small patch of dirt directly in front of him where a convenient puff of dust could be created, rather than the actual target to show the affect of the round?)  Considering the current state of idiocy in pursuit of fame in this country, however, nothing at all surprises me anymore.  I remember a time when folks would hide all evidence of such obvious stupidity, but now this stuff is some sort of badge of honor?

Excuse me, but I'm on my way out to set up my camera to record me jumping over a speeding car.  The fact that I'm 60 years old and couldn't jump more than a foot off the ground won't affect my decision to make the attempt, just as long as I get my 15 seconds of fame on youtube.

Fake!  I have been to a silhouette range shooting at 1/2 inch diamond plate at various distances. The sheep is 1000 yards I believe. Direct hit will knock it over. A steel plate @ 1000 yds has to be angled towards the shooter to send the round back. I say BS!!!!

I don't see anywhere, where it states the target is 1000 meters (or yards) away and the target is clearly not that far away.

It look real to me.

no matter how far or close: 360° deflection is just impossible on a flat surface.

How about a 180 degree?   :nixweiss:
