Half Helmet Sun Visor Opinions wanted
« on: March 27, 2011, 09:54:09 PM »

I'm looking to buy a new helmet this spring. I like the theory behind the half helmets with the built in drop down visor. Does anybody have one of these helmets? Just wondering how well they work in dark, rain, bright light, normal conditions.... see attached pic for helmet style.
Thanks in advance, Supershooter

Don't want to spoil your plans, but I looked at this helmet last year because I really liked the idea too.  However I decided against it when I heard that there is a problem with them... Apparently after just a few uses the drop down visor gets scratched up.

Possibly someone on the site has one and can verify otherwise.  :nixweiss:

Sorry, but just letting you know what I heard from a dealership employee.

I use a Scorpion EXO 900 with a drop down visor, though I looked at a bunch before I bought that one.  None of the visors are very dark.  They are useless riding into the setting sun.  I bought some window tint and applied it to the visor.  Works great now

I think that they would work really well in rain, as a second barrier or am I thinking about that wrong?

My girlfriend loves hers, she really likes the option to have more protection in addition to glasses.

You may want to check out HJC. They also make the same style helmet and I think they make some of the Harley helmets.

I ordered mine online from the Netherlands. As far as I know there are no U.S. dealers

I ahve the Scorpion half with the drop down tinted half shield.  I reallly like it, not overly dark, but my glasses are so together it seems to work.  The part I like BEST is when semi's get into the shoulder and toss up fine dust and small stones, a quick touch of the shield and it's down providing more protection.   All in all, I am happy with mine, no scratches, and it's over a year old with daily use.

The wife and I both have one from H.D. (different graphic) that we got last year. They work great. It's now our helmet of choice out of the 3 or 4 that we have.

My wife and I bought a pair of HJC last year. She wears glasses and this was a great addition instead of buying prescption sun glasses. I like the extra screening when I'm riding into the sunset.    Chilly

I saw that same lid on the HD site, kinda liked it also. Drop down visor looks like it would be great for those quick rain storms.
If the visor is not down, where is it? Up over the outside? I guess it will stay in place and you can ride with it up? Do they only have Black and or with Sculls?
