European 4 Rally Ride.....
« on: April 14, 2011, 12:04:51 PM »

Summer Rally Tour...... After looking aver the H.O.G. events around Europe in July. I have noticed that there are 3 the same weekend from 8 -10 July. They would be Barcelona,Spain; Lugano, Switzerland; and Munich Germany. Another rally is in Morzine, France the following weekend.

Now it would be a stretch, but I think it may be possible to hit all those rallies between 8 - 10 July and then take the time to go to Morzine...

So we take the ferry to Barcelona stay for a couple of hours and then off to Switzerland, get to Swizz on the 9th and then go to Munich on the 10th.....

Naples to Civiteviccia = about 4 hours
Civitiviccia to Barcelona(ferry) 21 hours arrive in the evening of the 8th around 7 pm
Barcelona to Lugano = about 10 hours......leave the evening of the 8th and ride about 3-4 hours stop and continue the 9th
arrive Swizz 9th and stay the night
leave Swizz the 10th and head to Munich
Lugano to Munich = about 5 hours

After munich would have 5 days to ride wherever..... before Morzine.

This would be a 4 Rally Ride

I know it sounds like I am smoking crack, but I never know when I will be back here so I might as well do it.

Barcelona to Lugano in 10hours, thats what the michelin tour guide will quote you but in practice, 1000km; I think not a chance in hell on that route, there are to many Paege toll stops, to much traffic and to many traffic cams to be able to make the speed up to cover the afforementioned stops plus bum breaks, lunch, do any of you smoke?

Dont get me wrong, 1000km in about 10 hours is possible when you know the route like the back of your hand, you dont waste time navi or map reading, you know which gas station you can stretch your consumption too, etc etc

Ice6900 took the words right out of my mouth. It would be possible
but that's a hell of a ride and all on european highways, in an area
with a lot of traffic, trucks, vans and tourist. Also the wind in this
area (legendary mistral) can be against you. If you reach Nice or
Genua at rush-hour, it would take a lot of patience and time to get
thru.

But nevertheless, it would be a pleasure to meet you at Lugano.

Thanks guys for the advise....

I knew it may be a stretch, so maybe instead of Barcelona, I just head to Lugano, Munich and then Morzine from Naples.  Seems like a more reasonable route.

I am planning to take 2 weeks of from work to ride up so I want to make the most of it.

@ bandit and ice6900  do you guys plan on going to Lugano?
