Shoei Neotec Modular Helmet
« on: February 13, 2012, 04:31:25 PM »

Pretty good initial review of this helmet. Looks like they've made some pretty good improvements over the Multitec, and it appears as though you might be able to use the HD Boom headsets that come with the Ultra models in the CVO lineup, which is a huge (way less $$$$) thing, IMO.

Something worth considering if you're thinking about a Modular (Flip Face) helmet in the future.

I don't have any factory comms, but it sure would be nice if all the helmet makers would give you the easy option of using the factory stuff.

Would be nice if ncoms could talk to scala's too.

I use a Schubert C3. Once you go that route is hard to change. I have a Shoei as a back up helmet though .

The harley mic/speakers etc fit the Multi-Tec with no problems. No problems installing at all. Pockets are in the Multi-Tec just like in the new Neo-Tec. I have been wearing a Multi-Tec now for over 5 years but the ability to remove and wash the liner makes the newer Neo a definite must for me.

Thats good to know because I order a Neo-tec last week and I am waiting for it to get here. What you said about the Multi-tec is true. My friend has one and the stock mic and speakers fit just fine. I'll find out soon if they will work in the Neo-tec. I'm sure they will.

There are two different "backplates" that come with the HD headsets.  One of them will work with most helmets.  I had to force things a bit on my Shark, but it fits.  Those helmets that have a wide, curved, plastic skirt around the bottom of the helmet give more problems than those with a straight, squared off bottom trim.

Thanks for your input. I'm sure I'll figure something out to get it to work.

Midnight, Do you think the Shoei would be better than the C3 for its supposed more chin room area for boom mic? Is there a slimmer or better setup than HD's boom? Long distance I use an N103 and had to carve a little foam out for boom to fit comfortably. Looking for another helmet when not using a cap and hand down my Nolan to BSR.

That would be a tough call...I'd read the Webbikeworld review on both helmets and see which one you may like best.  Pay particular attention to what they say about head shape as it relates to both helmets.  Those folks do an excellent job in helmet reviews.  Take a look at the Nolan N104 review as well...from reports I've read, both here and elsewhere, it has more chin room than other Nolans from the past.  It's also easier to ride with the chin bar raised on the Nolan, though you'll still look like a Nimrod.  The Shark Evoline 2 is the only helmet I'm aware of that converts to a true 3/4 helmet when desired.  It is a very nice feature, but the helmet is a bit heavier because of that feature.

The J&M microphone is considerably smaller in size than the HD.  My wife has the J&M in her Nolan N102 and it works well for her.  I used it in my N102 as well, but got a new helmet so made the HD Boom! that came with the bike fit.  The Shark Evoline 2 ST has more room in front of the mouth than does many helmets.

The noise factor would probably push me towards the C3, all other things being equal.  Both are excellent helmets though.
