Why Navy SEALs and not Marines
« on: May 12, 2011, 04:01:59 PM »

I got a little ribbing about the leaders using the Navy SEALs to get Bin Laden instead of the Marines. Easily explained I said, they wanted to only capture Bin Laden and not capture Pakistan.

OOOH RAH

Meant as ball busting humor between services. All of America should be proud of the SEALs. They proved themselves and deserve our respect!

Maybe, but I don't think I've ever seen Marines run down the beach with a telephone pole on their shoulders.

You don't spend much time in San Diego or Camp Pendleton.

The Corps earned the term "first in, last out".

The SEALs are very tough, got that way by training tough, and I salute them. Especially for capturing UBL.

Marine Force Recon (Marines version of SEALs) do all the extra fire pissing, telephone pole running, and special ops.

Never see them because they are always behind enemy lines!  :2vrolijk_21:

Was watching a documentary on Special Forces and they stated the Marines denied access to show Force Recon..

I don't know if they are still doing it, but we were doing drills and running with telephone poles in Marine bootcamp. Running quick march while military
pressing a tele pole from shoulder to shoulder was not my favorite time of the day, especially if you were the tallest guy in the squad. Good Job Navy !

UDT sign on the beach. "Welcome USMC"

Didn't do it right you would sit the pole down, hit the sand PIT, and make it rain sand. Real nice when the DI would put the sand directly down the neck of your undershirt all over your shoulders. Then you got to start all over with the pole. GRIT

Actually I did, most recently with our group doing contract work at all the SD bases as well as Camp Pendleton, Lompoc, then on to SF.

I regularly saw the early morning BUD runs along the Strand and other beach exercises.

I stand corrected on Marines carrying the telephone pole, just haven't seen it.

NO DISRESPECT INTENDED.

ALRG8TOR, since you are familiar with the area then can we expect to see you in Tahoe for the GTG June 13 - 17? Plenty of room on the boat a.t.t.

I'm not sure about 2ksoftail coming along. He'll have us manning our brooms, sweeping aft and fore, and other Squid-like things they used to announce.

Sweepers, Sweepers, man your brooms. Give the ship a clean sweep down both fore and aft! Sweep down all lower decks, ladder wells and passageways! Dump all garbage clear of the fantail! (Found this on Squidipedia)

Thanks for the invite! I would love to get back out west, my brother is now in the SD area as an air traffic controller and I have yet to see his place, not sure if it's in the cards for me this year but it's on the list.

Really loved the Tahoe area, incredibly beautiful country - we skiied many of the major resorts when we were based in Vallejo, and got a chance to do a little riding in the Sacramento area during our stay too.

Have you every been to Lemoore? (near Hanford, Fresno)

I was a Naval Gunfire spotter (ANGLICO) in the Marine Corps and trained with seals. Good bunch of guys, but they were always wet.  Doc

......and WE are dedicated to keeping the "squids" inside their play area.

We also appreciate the Navy Taxi Service too.

As far as the UDT sign goes....that's why Halo jumps were invented we don't no stinking beach head.

On a serious note, the Navy and Marines have been poking good natured fun at each other for years. However when the sh.. hits the fan and things get serious, they stand together as one.

Damned Fine Job Seal Team 6 and all of the support personnel!!
