My Dream Harley - but never dreamed I'd own one........
« on: May 30, 2011, 07:39:43 AM »

 :orange:

Well, had my first Harley in '64, and my sweet sweet ride for many years has been a Stage II '97 FXDWG that I've pretty much built myself (do all my own work, including cams), all tricked-out, lowered, comfortable, stunning, etc.  My line for many years has been, "I'll get a bagger when I get old....."   :P

But when they came out with the '09 CVO Road Glide in Stardust Silver & Titanium, I thought, "That is the most beautiful Harley ever made....bar none...", and immediately told self, "don't even think about it."

Well, retired, sold my beautiful, like-new '06 Duramax LT for $11,000 less that what I paid for it ("Employee Discount" days) 5 1/2 years and 60k mis. ago - it was paid for.  Thought I'd get a new Road Glide Ultra (figured 66 is old enough to now get a bagger) for momma and me to take trips on.  But after tricking it out like I wanted it, it was way over $30k, and I just didn't want to spend that much.

So I started looking for used, and found some great prices on the bright orange and bright yellow '09 CVO RG's - but my colors on everything are silver, grey's and black.

I'd only seen 3 in the Silver/Titanium color, and discovered a Virginia dealer still had one I had seen many months ago.  Long story short is they took my offer and my cash from my Silverado and I have the sweetest scoot Harley ever made - '09 CVO Road Glide in Silver/Titanium.

Immediately put a WindSplitter windshield on it and Rinehart slip-ons, and now it sounds as sweet as it looks!

It's an honor to be able to be a part of this forum now, though I probably don't belong as most of you all are pretty rich!

PS:  As to the name Gatornapper, you'll have to look for a 1965 Indianapolis Star newspaper articles (who coined it) and the Kosciusko County court records for July of that year......
PSS:  My Stage II Evo is still faster than the FLTRSE3.........

Thanks for the welcome, Screamin......quite a stable you have there.....3 of my 5 sons and one of my daughters ride with me, and one has a new Softail Custom.  I told him
'imitation is the most sincere form of flattery' as the Softail Custom is really just the Softail version/upgrade of a Wide Glide....

My birthday present last month from 2 of my son's was, "Hey, Dad!  Would you lead us and a bunch of our friends on a good ride today?"  I couldn't believe - as I looked in
my mirrors - that I had 5 young bucks in their early 20's and 2 in their mid-30's behind me for over 2 hours of carving the curves!  Needless to say, I had to push the twisties
as hard as I dared with all those youngin's on my tail, and all said it was a great ride afterwards.  But the 35 yr. old who races his Ducati superbike just had to show me his
tail on a lot of the straights as he blew by me at over 100mph......buzzing like a bee...... :)

I also have two old Triumph's that I've restored.  My thread on finding, restoring and riding my '72 Bonneville is now at over 52,000 views, almost 1,600
posts, 159 pages and a 5 star rating......here.....

http://www.triumphrat.net/classic-vintage-and-veteran/131945-72-bonnie-from-finding-to-buying-to-fixing-up-to-riding.html

Trouble is it's so long now it's too long to read.....tho I still get posts from those who start reading and take a week to get all the way through it....

Welcome to the site from Missouri. Enjoy your new ride. Good things come to those who wait. Some times you just have to save up for it. I know I did.
