Will we see a 113 ci in 2013?
« on: July 03, 2011, 07:10:26 AM »

my riding buddy seems to think a 113 will replace the 110 in time for Harley's 110th anniversary.  i think he's dreaming.  From a marketing point of view, it doesn't make sense.  i think he's just itching for an excuse to buy another bike.

Why not strap the 120 on in 2013?

Just my .02 but i don't think we will see any larger air-cooled motors from HD than the 110. They have too hard of a problem keeping them running cool as it is without increasing displacement.
Now maybe if they included dual oil coolers and the parade fan.... :huepfenlol2:

My prediction through my cloudy crystal ball with no help from those in the know at HD would be that they hold still until the introduction of a water cooled bike. They could make it larger displacement with lots more power to get the traditionalist to throw a leg over the new motor.
Younger riders would like the fact of the power and the ability to just buy the bike and turn the key and ride and not have to spend thousands just to get it to run right.

Larger air-cooled motors would give HD problems meeting EPA noise and pollution regulations. With water-cooled HD could sell lots of Screamin Eagle radiator fluid... :huepfenlol2:

Seems like that would be easier for HD, they already have it ready to go.

They will have to do something now that the 103 is stock.

...then 3 or 4 model years for HD to 'get it right' and make it reliable

Don't think younger riders will flock to the water cooled version. The V-Rod comes to mind. Sad to say they could get a much higher quality, less expensive, lighter, faster, better handling rice rocket and wear those colorful boots to match.  :nixweiss:

For the older set, there's BMW and Honda. MOCO has it's work cut out for it.

Don't think it makes much sense to bump up an already borderline 110", why not just make the 120" jump for CVO's and be done with it?  :nixweiss:

Doesn't HD usually stroke up to the next level ? What displacement would the 120 crank give with 110 cyls ?

I have a 113, I'd love to see how they'd make that emissions compliant.

A measly 3 cu. in. isn't enough to make me go out and buy the latest CVO and I'll bet others feel the same.  Todays racing stuff helps shape tomorrows consumer options.  A street version of the 120 would be logical.  2013 would be the earliest we would see that.

nope sorry see no advantage to the 113 except pure performance i have seen myself how thin you must bore the case to make this happen just dont feel it is reliable as now you are back to a base
gskt instead of the oring unless you build a meatier case or find a way to get a tiny bit more stroke to fit in the frames the 96" case only allows a 110 to be the largest i would build for reliability if you dont care about relaibility then cut em as much as you want other than that need better cases
