CA EPA application lists a 2012 CVO Road Glide Custom...to me, that means they drop the ultra treatment and go back to the 09 SERG hot rod style but whats with the "custom" designation? Isn't a CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) a custom? WTFO?

Is it going to be a FLTRSE4 or do we need to start a FLTRXSE board?

Whatever it is, I hope they put the Screamin' Eagle back on it!

Beemer, the "Custom" in this case is just one of the standard model distinctions Harley uses. Electraglide Standard, Electraglide Custom, Electraglide Ultra Classic, Road King, Road King Custom, Roadglide, Roadglide Custom, etc. They've been using those model names for a long time, and it doesn't have anything to do with being a real custom or a CVO.

It appears that the 2012 Roadglide Custom is a lowered and stripped down/sportier version (you can see a photo on the Harley site but full details aren't up yet). So if the CVO version is based on the RG Custom, you can probably assume that the king tourpak will be gone and the bike will have a sportier style than the 2011 RG Ultra CVO. Maybe more like a Street Glide version of a Roadglide.

Maybe only a few of this years models carry that designation, but if you look back over time Harley has used the "Custom" name on a ton of bikes to differentiate within the families. BTW, to answer a question from your original post (Isn't a CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) a custom?), a CVO is not a true custom bike. True customs don't come in production runs numbering in the thousands, and they don't roll off production lines. Kind of like all those cars and trucks with "Limited" badges on the back aren't really low volume "limited availability" vehicles. It's just a name; it's called marketing.

Think of a CVO as an upscale option package with a bunch of stuff from the accessory catalog as well as somewhat distinctive paint. Even the paint isn't what I'd call custom; the numbered paint sets Harley sells in the catalog are much more exclusive than a CVO paint job. One out of a hundred, or one of several thousand. Which would you call "custom"?

They also identified a "Road Glide Custom and a "Road Glide Ultra", both with 1688 CC engine (AKA "103").

Looking at the other applications, looks like all the heavys are 103s or 110. No more 96s except Dynas or Softtails.

Actually, the TC 96 is only on the Dyna for 2012. The Softail and Touring models all have the TC 103 as the standard engine, and the CVO 110 as an "upgrade" for the CVO's.

BTW, for those who missed it the official model designation for the 2012 SERGC is FLTRXSE.

Also looks like they trimmed/streamlined the front fender as well to better fit the 19" wheel. I love the graphics on this bike...it flows nicely from the front fender all the way back and with the bottom of all the tin black along with the gloss black engine, it should be quite a stunner in person.

I sure hope they have a Orange/Black version

I love this site because of the variety of opinions on these new CVO's. I need to see this bike in person because for me, the graphics in the pics I've seen on this site for the 2012 CVO Road Glide is not my cup-of-tea. I'm still loving my 09 Silver paint scheme better.

I like the 2011 Krypto as well but at the moment, the best IMO for 2012 is the CVO Ultra. I love the classic simplicity of the 2012 CVO Ultra as it reminds me of my 2009 CVO Road Glide.

I also love the 2006 CVO Ultra paint schemes and the 2009 CVO Ultra paint schemes but I'm a Road Glide man (the 2000 and 2001 CVO Road Glide paints schemes are killer as well..

Sorry for the rant but wanted to chime in on the color schemes.

Looking at the link, it seems the street glide gets lots more audio stuff than the road glide version. I would think they would have done the lowers street glide CVO style with the speakers. Looks like for 12 they have speakers in the bags on the CVO street glide.

I am anxious to see the other colors for the Road Glide CVO.

charles05663 the other gauge they got rid of in the fairing was the fuel gauge. Just like they did in the 2011 CVO Street Glides due to having the flush mount LED fuel gauge in the tank now.

I agree, it would seem the Street Glide is getting a way better stereo system then the Road Glide for some reason. Based on the 2012MY information that has been posted, the Street Glide gets 4 speakers in the fairing like the Road Glide, but then gets a pair in the lowers and another pair, and maybe another amplifier, in the saddle bags. That puts the Street Glide stereo at 8 speakers and 400w. That's twice the stereo the Road Glide is getting.

What is up with that? I do not see anything the Road Glide is getting to offset this disparity in stereo systems and the lowers on Street Glide. Does that mean the Road Glide will be less money than the Street Glide? They just do not seem like equal bikes in terms of features IMO.

But I do think the Road Glide wins hands down in the paint graphics. Will have to see if the colors that are offered do as well tomorrow.

After taking another look at the pic and reading the SESG sheet, I see they've gone to the Road King gas tank on the 12 SERG as well. You can see the gas cap...so they replaced the air temp and fuel guages with tweaters in the fairing.

If you like a sport bike version of the RG then this is the black and white bomb. BUT I agree with TC that a tour pack is a must on the large touring bike. Simon referred to it as a great bar hopper and that's true but not a weekend trip bike like I picture the RG package. Of course we could cough up the 4k and get all the rear end fixed for momma.

Different opinions on the tourpac being essential on a lg. touring bike. I've toured extensively on a electraglide without a tourpac and prefer it that way. I use a waterproof strap-on bag instead of a tourpac. So, just saying it can be another approach/preference. spyder

I think the MoCo missed the boat this year with the FLTRXSE...they could have had a winner if they would have given it the same accessories as the SESG, but with a frame mounted fairing. Instead they come down with 110" stock RGC with a different paint job and threw a $30K price tag on it. I would have paid the $2K more to get the lowers with speakers and saddle bags with speakers and amp. I'm almost positive you won't be able to go out and buy all of that and get the paint matched for $2K.

X2 Charlie...sometimes you have to wonder what the hell they are thinking up there. The whole look/feel of the bike is like the SG with a fixed fairing, and what's 2K when you're already paying 30K?

Nice pictures, thanks for posting. That bike just begs to have a bunch of blacked out parts added to it (front end, crash bar, exhaust, front signals, floorboards, just to name a few). Oh and if you buy the tour pak, I see you can now get gloss black hinges and latches.

You have to give it to Mother Harley, they know how to do a bike half way, so you have to spend another $3-4k to finish the job.

I'm seeing some custom oriented individual ghosting in a screamin' eagle on the white portion of that fairing. Maybe in a pearlescent white or a really really light grey. That could look cool. All that white space looks like a canvas crying out for individual expression to me.

My deposit is on a white/black which is coming first, 20 august or so. However if it does not pop as much as I think I can move my deposit to blue. I just must see the white first, I think it will be the best looking but with white you just have to see it in person to decide.

Jerry, I was at the factory in York in July and noticed everything said Vehicle Operations. During the tour I asked why it isn't Custom Vehicle Operations any more??? She said in 2008 they went to a line production so it no longer is Custom. I didn't know that. I still thought CVO bikes were built by one or two people like when mine was built.

Was in York in a few weeks ago and out tour guide made the comment to me that the MOCO thinks the quality will be improved by merging the CVO line into the standard production line..... Time will tell....

Was in York in a few weeks ago and out tour guide made the comment to me that the MOCO thinks the quality will be improved by merging the CVO line into the standard production line..... Time will tell....

I personally think there have been more problems since they moved the CVOs out on to the main production line. QC has definitely gone down since the move.

Vehicle Operations and Custom Vehicle Operations were never the same thing. Vehicle Operations is the assembly plant and systems. CVO was always the step kid in the old building out behind (until it got merged with the main line.

Since we were there in July, the 2012's were in production and we couldn't see them since they weren't out yet. She did say it was 2008 that they started building them on the line...

Strange, but I know that it was May of 2009 when I toured the CVO line in the old building, it was after I got my 2009 CVO. I also believe a group from this site made a tour of the CVO line in 2009. You had to have at least ten people and special approval or permission back then ahead of time.
