2008 SEUltra vs 2011 SERG
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:14:18 PM »

I have an opportunity to move from my 08 SEUG to a 2011 SERG I drive about 5-6000 miles annually are there any advantages or disadvantages I should know about?

I have a 11 RG ultra and love it.  Brother rides an 11 UG.  Have risen both long distance, like both... Lean towards the RG.

If you are tall or tall in the torso the wind buffering maybe an issue for you.   i didnt like the wind buffering nor did my bsr when she was on.   tried 5 shields and 2 seats and couldn't fix it so I traded back to a batwing fairing.

I'm 6'4" and have the stock windshield on my SEURG, and don't have any major issues with wind.  I get a little buffetting around the top of the helmet, but I get that on my SESG too.  I think, even though the SEURG is heavier than the SEUC, it seems, to me at least, to handle lighter, than my SEUC did.

I went from an 08 SEUC to an 11 SERG.  The wind management on the SERGU is much better.  Both have (had) stock windscreens.  I could never hear the stereo at highway speeds on the UC and the buffeting at 65mph+ used to bounce my riding glasses so bad it affected my vision.  None of these problems on the RGU.

The Road Glide is noticeably heavier (why I do not know) and is a bit hotter.  My bone stock RGU feels like it pulls just as hard as the UC which had A/C, V&H Monster Ovals, and a slightly rich TTS Mastertune job.

I really liked the SEUC and was a wee bit worried that the new SERGU wouldn't live up to it, but it has and more.  Hopefully you'll get the chance to test drive the prospective bike and form your own impressions though some dealers don't let their CVO machines out for test drives.

The choice of fairings is purely subjective.  I prefer the shark nose for aerodynamic and handling reasons.  Saw an '11 SERGU today.  Thought it was stunning.  You will certainly appreciate the new touring frame and wider wheels and tires.

What do you mean by rus hotter?

The amount of heat I feel from the engine is a bit more on the SERGU than my SEUC.  The SERGU has a catalytic converter which the SEUC did not.  I've had a problem with the left lower 'door' vibrating open which restricts some airflow and makes things feel even worse.  If you're sensitive to the heat, you won't like this motor but, overall, it's not that big a deal and not a problem at all when ambient temps are below 85.  I haven't taken temperature readings to provide an objective comparison but my comments are based on the last three months and about 7K miles of riding in everthing from 45 to 95 degree days.

First congrats, the FLTRUSE is a great bike, I think you're gonna love it. I think the biggest difference will be the lack of upper fairing vents to open and channel air to your head/torso on those hot days. There is a company ( Sanchos Wings) that makes air deflectors BUT! They don't open. There is another company that makes vents for Batwing fairings called Freedom Wings ( they were making them before Harley was) I spoke with owner of the company and he says they have a openable vent design for shark nose bikes, he is looking for more interest from FLTR owners before he commits to making them, its a phone call all FLTR owners should make. If you go on his website you will see how nice his vent is for FLHT bikes. That, IMHO, is the only downfall to FLTRs, no way to scope cool air.

I just checked his website http://sanchoswings.com and you can order them online now. He only takes PayPal but that is not a problem for most folks nowadays. I'm going to order a set of dark smoked for the new ride just in case. I get home on Aug 6th from Qatar and will be out on it that afternoon.  :jalapeno:
