Dyno results after SE260 installed + Dyno sheet
« on: June 27, 2011, 07:13:29 AM »

Greetings,

Just FYI , had dyno after run in 100.32hp and 103ftlb.

The dealer has stuggled to tune with fly by wire and I'm not real happy with it as low rpm rideability is crap.

Basically surges in any gear at steady throttle between 2,000- 3000rpm, when 100% it's ok.

Is anyone in the US have trouble with SERT and flyby wire throttle ?

Cheers

I added a Throttlepack from V&H and it seems to have taken care of the issue.

Find a new tuner, your combo ain't nothing new and should be tuned without hiccups.  The SERT is a good product with thousands of satisfied users.

Those are good numbers
Does the tunner give you a copy of the ve tables
This way you can compare them with others or another tuner can modify the table better
You should have somthing  that you can build on from that point

What do you mean by "surges" like when you roll on the throttle the bike surges forward with too much torque?  Just curious - my 2010 is dyno'd and has the SEPT kit and it wants to surge forward all the time - like it hates 2200 rpms and loves 4000 rpms.

A surge at a steady RPM when at part throttle (ex. riding along at a steady 55  mph, 5th gear) is a sign of a lean spot.  Back in the days of carburetors you would raise the needle 1 notch to fatten it up.  This once again points to an inexperienced tuner did the fuel map.  Yes, they can tune it for full throttle no problem but unless the entire map is dialed in for correct A/F ratio all those spots in between idle and WFO can have issues.

Not sure if you're being facetious or really want to know what surging is.  Surging means the engine output varies at a steady throttle setting, like if you're trying to run at 40 mph in town and the bike feels like a hobby horse.  A screwed up air fuel mixture will cause this, as will some timing problems.  A competent tuner wouldn't turn it lose like that, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the electronic throttle control.  Those have issues like built in lag and nonlinearity, but that doesn't cause a lean surge.

btw, properly matching the cam to the rest of the engine would have been beneficial in this case as well.  The SE260 requires higher compression and head work to run as designed, and is not considered by H-D or anyone else I know to be a bolt-in cam for an otherwise stock engine.

H-D and me  -  a classic love / hate relationship.  Current score:  love 40, hate 50, bewildered 10.

Thanks for your input everyone.
My HD dealer recommended the cam and I trusted there judgment .
I have had the bike back twice in an attempt to rectify the surge issue but really have lost faith as I really don't think they can tune it correctly.
I have sought the views of a specialist HD tuner ( non HD )
and will go to him for cam replacement and a tune he guarantees will be perfect.
Will let you know how it all goes.
Cheers

Please tell us what cam your new tuner recommends and post a copy of your dyno results.

No - not being facetious - just never rode a bike that behaved as you mentioned.  Thanks for the information - hope I continue to ride with facing an issue of "surging".
