Just ordered a Deka battery today.  An eBay seller offers for $95 including shipping.  Bike shop told me the dealer cost is now $170 freaking dollars.  That's up a LOT since the last time I needed one.  Deka is the OE for the Harley branded batteries so gave it a shot.

Be interested in how that workss for you. :nixweiss:Going on 7.5 years on original battery think it may be getting close to replacement time.

Going to use a really long extension cord and always keep it on your battery tender.  With any luck that will help extend its service life.

Too true Dood.  You've got that "special" tender.  I definitely want to share some of its magic on the new battery.

Still have the original battery in the '09 SERG but use an Odyssey in my Titan. The Odyssey  batteries seem to have a better cranking power and do not lose a charge over time.  The Titan does not get ridden much.  I have let it sit for a couple months without being on a battery tender.  When reconnected to the tender, it always registers fully charged.  I bought it online for less than the HD battery would have been.

I should have gone this route instead of buying a new HD battery.. I have odesseys in both my silverado and my Turbo Mustang

Is that because the Titan is an oddity? ;D

Dealer MSRP is currently $170.95.  Dealer cost is significantly less.  I always thought it was a ripoff when Harley sold the batteries for $100, but this is getting ridiculous.  I can wander over to any auto parts store and buy an AGM battery for a car or truck for much less than what Harley wants for the small one in their bikes.  I remember looking at Odyssey a couple years back and thinking it was overpriced; now the Harley battery basically costs as much as the Odyssey.  Since I'm pretty sure they don't have gold terminals or other fancy stuff, it's very hard to justify in my mind.

The Deka seems to be a good and definitely more reasonably priced option.  Plenty of folks have indicated buying them online recently rather than pay Harley's price.  There are some others out there advertised for a similar price, very possibly also made by Deka but sold under various brand names.  One of the positive things about the internet is that it is much easier to search for and find better solutions these days.  Harley obviously thinks they still have a captive clientele that has to come to them for everything.  Hey Harley, wake up and join the 21st century!

Yup.. AGM batteries ship cheaper than old lead acid versions.. no HAZMAT fees because they are non-spillable.

I went to AGM in my truck because the crappy Delco batteries ALWAYS leak around the terminal. the damn GM cable cost me almost as much as the battery!
