XM Radio on my Convertible
« on: January 21, 2012, 09:32:57 AM »

I'm one of those guys that is hooked on my satellite radio. I have had it in my car and on my Electra Glide for about 7 years now and I'm not going back. Here it is on my Convertible.
Worked out pretty nice and sounds pretty good considering the amp and speakers in the fairing. I have it arranged so all the radio items reside on the bike so in the event I want to use a large
touring shield or no shield I would just plug my earbuds into the output jack on the back of the radio and still have tunes. I also anticipate using the earbuds on longer rides as the speakers are
kinda hit or miss above 65mph. The radio is powered when ever the switch is turned on and that's nice, no screwing with the ipod in the in the cubby hole. I ran the 3.5mm jack out the fairing along
side the power cable for the speakers so it a easy arrangment. The mount is a Tech Mount. I have used several of their mounts and they are top shelf.

Ditto! I have XM in my car but will use my iPod Nano for Saphira, my 2010 CVO.

I have the garmin 665 on my 2011 convertable and BMW 1200 Lt. Each have a separate antenna and mount and are hard wired to the bikes. Just found out from Garmin and XM radio that you have to have a separate subscription for each antenna. The antenna changes the radio ID. WTF??? I have to pay for a subscription that will never be in use when the opposite antenna is in use. How user friendly is that??? Neither company is willing to discuss a work around and each say it is the others problem. >:( :-X

That whole Garmin/XM setup is kinda costly. There must be more that resides in the ZUMO XM antenna based on the cost.
I haven't found it to financialy appeally.

I put the antenna in the ipod compartment. Then I drilled a little larger hole in the bottom of the fairing and used wire tie to hold the cable to the clutch cable. I don't intend to be taking the fairing off and on so no matter to me. Hard to see how I did it so no pictures.
