Is this a good deal on a 2009 FXDFSE
« on: February 25, 2012, 12:08:49 AM »

My buddy has been looking for a CVO fatbob. Ideally a 2010 would be his preference. We've come across a 2009 Orange and black for 20000 cdn. The bike has only 490 kms on it. Essentially brand new.

I don't have all the details yet. Will have tomorrow, but I've had my dealer looking as well and he just emailed me about this one he has coming in on trade later this week.

My buddy will have to jump on this quickly, and I'd like to know if there is anything I should know about this model before I recommend it to him any stronger than I have already.

I think 20k is a fair price for it? Are there any issues with this model? Anyone with quick thoughts to help with this decision?

I just traded in my 2009 FXDFSE in with 20,000 miles and got $18,000 from the dealer. They have it on the floor for $20,995.

I absolutely loved the bikes power and handling and took a few extended trips in "relative" comfort. My reason for the trade was because of all the trouble that I had with it. Not to go into many negative details but the "straw" was the day after the 20,000 mile service when the motor slipped both cylinder liners, took out the heads and had to be rebuilt. Good thing for warranties and thanks to the dealer for working with Harley to cover the repairs even though the motor had "some work" done to it.

I love mine!  :2vrolijk_21:

The stock setup is not immediately geared for touring, after adding a windshield, sundowner seat, backrest, and rack you're good for longer distances and higher speeds. Depends on the riding style and how far your friend plans to go.

Well I'm very excited for my friend. When we arrived at the dealership this morning we were told the bike was in the clean up bay getting a bath. As we entered the shop area I was scanning for this bright orange beacon at the back of the facility. My buddy had hoped for a reason to say no and the color was going to be his escape hatch. He's not into "in your face" colors like electric orange.

As we approached the Bay I saw the chromed LED taillight on a bike, but it was not orange... It was Black Diamond/Fire Quartz. You should have seen my buddy's eyes light up. It was great!

The bike is PERFECT. It already has a rinehart 2-1 pipe and a few other chrome bits. The dealer is changing the fluids and replacing the battery. Gave him 8000 for his 08 XL1200C. Done deal and he is stoked!!!

Thanks all for your input... We will have another happy CVO owner this week!

Your friend got a really good deal on that bike. The local HD dealer had a new blue 2009 FXDFSE listed for $ 33,000 last spring and got the asking price.
Deeley Canada was not alotted many of this bikes, they listed for $ 30,040.

I thought so too. He's a very lucky guy. The perfect bike for him falls into his lap. Nice.

I have had mine since new....there were a lot of problems when I first got it. The dealers shock me  --- when I took delivery so many things did not work and everything and I mean everything was loose. Guess mine was built when the guys were having a bad day.  It is a great bike, but a road king will out handle it with ease.  They lowered the bike and left the pedals in the same location so you lose a good bit of handling.  Make sure the bike you are looking at has the later brakes on it, mine does not and frankly is a nightmare to slow down if you are really pushing it. That being said, good luck on prying this thing out my hands, unless I experience the same problems of guy with the motor issue.  Make sure you put an oil cooler on it, they run really hot!
