[Midnight Rider]

Picked up the VROD this afternoon, after lighting a fire under some a$$es at the dealer to get the stuff done they've had three days to do!!

This bike is a perfect fit for me!!  The riding position is like my feet are almost on hiway pegs, the seat is very comfortable, the handlebar position is absolutely dead-on...leaning ever so slightly forward, but pretty much upright.  The bike is smooth as silk, shifts with a click, and the brakes will stop on a dime.  It feels different, because the rake on the front end is a totally different thing than the Ultra (obviously), but once I got used to how it felt by doing some tight turns in the dealer parking lot, felt completely comfortable.  Took her out on some highways, not interstate, some local backroads, through some neighborhoods, getting a feel for how she handled.  She is perfectly balanced...when you put her in a curve, she will hold a line with very little additional input on the bars.  I could NOT be more pleased with the way this bike feels, runs, and SOUNDS...put the SE pipes on her with the K&N filter, and download...very, very nice sound...not loud, but a deep throaty roar when you romp a bit.  I put 50 miles on her, not going over 4K RPM, the next 450 will be at 5500, but just taking it there briefly is an unreal experience.

This is a match made in Heaven!!

Thanks Don...I do feel like a new Daddy...About to go down and detail the bike from the little rain I hit on the way home yesterday afternoon while getting the first 50 on her.  Got to put a coat of Glare on her!!

Got a bad head this morning from a few too many margahooties chased with a couple of Hienies...

It's threatening rain here today, so might as well get in basement and do some detailing, temp fix on the oil cooler hoses as you recommended, and install the aux cord for the GPS.

Best remedy for this (if you can remember to do it) is to take[highlight] two aspirin, and drink as much water as you can before you go to bed the night you are out celebrating[/highlight]. Prevents the dehydration, which is the main reason for feeling so bad in the morning. [smiley=sick2.gif] You had a great reason to celebrate though, congrats again. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Roger...I did exactly that shortly after 12 noon today...3 brewskies and a few hours later, the V is all shined up with Glare polish, the Ultra has a fix for potential oil cooler hose issues, the GPS has a new power cord...couldn't get the fairing off the run the Audio Out on the GPS to the Aux in on the HK radio...don't have any torx sockets...another set of tools to purchase... [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=drink.gif]

Oh....Dood, this thing would satisfy anyone's OCD Chrome cravings....it's got so much chrome on it, it hurts your eyes to look at it in the sun.  The rear wheel is just awesome, as are the SE pipes I had installed...they're larger in diameter than the stockers, and oh so sweet a sound...like a high performance sports car.  

You would be proud of the detailing job I did on her today...I may need a pair of "Rub Me" thongs too!!!

She's anxious to get on the back and ride with me, but don't have a "throne" for her yet,and don't want the GF sliding off the back of that thing...

I rode with Dawg ONCE!  He made me lock my hands around him and I thought he was being overly cautious!  NADA!!!  I wouldn't suggest it without a sissy bar and if you chose the mini, I'm not sure I'd trust it!  If you gun it, she'll struggle to hang on!

BTW, the V won 1st in the American Cruiser class out of 61 bikes.  I love this dark orange now and wouldn't trade it for scarlet now -- even though that was my first choice.

I'm really looking forward to riding with TC on the VRod.   [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]   [smiley=drink.gif]       He's ordered a passenger seat and back rest so that I will be comfortable and he won't worry about me flying off the back!   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  Those items should arrive soon.   [smiley=banana.gif]     [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]     I rode the Dacati with him, and the first time was a nightmare because I was holding on to him too tight ... on the next rides I held on to the sissy bar.  Sometimes a little scary, but I have a bit of daredevil in me!  

Needless to say, it's fun to have a choice of two beautiful bikes, and we'll have lots of beautiful and happy rides.        [smiley=drink.gif]      [smiley=banana.gif]     Maybe some day I'll have my own bike, but for now I'm a VERY happy passenger.     [smiley=drink.gif]    Not in ANY hurry to be in the driver's seat.  I have a wonderful driver, the comfort of my "throne", and I can take in all of the beautiful scenery.      [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Dawg...I've got the low sissy bar ordered with a larger backrest pad...not the little bitty one that's made onto the luggage rack...this one bolts to the chrome fender base plate, so provides a little more support, along with the Sundowner seat/pillion.  Thanks for the post!!

The same low sissy bar as on mine, but mine is in black, with the black fender base plate, and luggage rack.  If you remember, you are the one that suggested it, I believe!  The only difference is I did not get the wide cushion because it is wider than the bike.

V, Got the stuff in today....Sundowner seat and pillion (new part number this year for the 06 SE...about an inch narrower), "touring" backrest pad to match the pillion, plate, luggage rack, and sissy bar. One reason for the wider backrest is the little suitcase HD makes to fit over that part number and sissy bar which will be perfect for day rides and work stuff. Also the wiring kit to make all the rear lights work as running and brake, and have the new "clear" with chrome insert LED tailight on order. It has over 20 red led's in a diamond cut lens to really make the back end noticeable when you hit the brakes.  I need this going back and forth to work on the bike, and for any night riding I might do. When I get it all on this weekend, I'll post some pics.

Come to think of it, I do think I remember saying something to you about these parts when you were going to pick up your bike in MB.

With my color (it will all sit on the Charcoal Metallic color on the rear fender), and the wider fender, I think the chrome will look better than the black, plus it will help balance out all the chrome on the front!!  On yours, I think you made a good choice in doing black.  The Orange and Black theme carried out to it's logical conclusion for that application.

I'm just not much on night riding...so easy to outrun the headlight, plus I'm an old fart and the vision isn't what it used to be at night, or at least it seems that way.  But there will be times.....don't mind it if I know the road well, but in strange places, it makes the pucker factor go up.

I think I can keep Suzanne on the back with this set-up    I've heard the Sundowner seat is very comfortable, so may just leave it all alone and not swap back and forth, depending on how it all looks.

If you get a chance check out this mod. I installed it a couple of weeks ago really makes the tach easy to read at night. Looks a lot closer the the speedo now. Something it should have been made with from the beginning.

Ed...so when you get the tack out of the housing...this goes into the tack housing, replacing the original board, or adding to it.  Soldering involved?  I can do that, just wondering where the thing goes, since it doesn't show or tell in the pic or PDF file for tack removal.

There is a link to a PDF file on the Heavy Cycles web site that shows the install. The new tach light,LED, replaces the existing light, incandescent. The new light replaces the existing exactly. About 20 minutes to install. No soldering just unbolt one and bolt on the replacement. There are a few steps in between, you need a dental pick, exacto knife and sensor rated silicone. I think with shipping the total was around $60. but it makes a big difference, works great.

Yes, I'll be installing all the parts I have received...waiting on the tailight, but can do everything without that part, if it doesn't get here by the weekend.  None of what I'm doing is a big deal at all...the hardest thing is the module for making the rear lights work together...just read all the instructions and it's just a matter of moving the outer rear fender, then everything is a piece of cake.  So...wiring first, then base plate, then luggage rack and sissy bar...then install the new seats and backrest pad.  The tailight is basically a pop out/pop in deal, so I can do that after the fact if necessary.

Will have to check out the tack lighting mod when I ride it at night, to see if I'm going to spend that money.

   Got the new Clear/Chrome version of the LED tailight on tonight....piece of cake to install, and man, does it look fantastic!!!  The lens is clear all over, but has CHROME on the inside surrounding the LED's, and the coolest lens I've ever seen!  When it's lit up, it is awesome and very bright!!  You'd have to be blind not to see this thing, day or night.  Also got the CHROME base plate installed, the CHROME rack, and the CHROME low sissy bar.  Installed the backrest too.  The Sundowner seat is the wrong part number, so will have to swap all that stuff out....looks like I might have an 07 version...they have changed the back clip for the pillion, and the way the driver's seat latches.  Got to check all that out this weekend when I return the seats for exchange.

But, it was dark when I finished...the light is going to be hard to capture, but I'll give it a try.  

The added chrome on the back of the bike looks good to me...balances the bike.  The friggin' tailight is NICE!!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I just ordered the Tall boy seat for my V, my a!$ is in pain from the ride last week. I hoping the new seat will be more comfortably then the stock seat. I'm 6' 1" so pushing back an 1-1/2" will help.

I will take some pics either today or tomorrow and post.  Yeah, Ed...at 6'1" you definitely need the tall boy seat...I'm only 5'8", so everything works for me.  The stock seat looks nice, but I'm not sure it would be comfortable for me over any long distances.  Fine for regular stuff though.  Suzanne is going to ride on the back for the first time this weekend...first bar trip this evening too...
