Rear Cylinder Cutting Out Often on My 2011 110
« on: June 02, 2012, 03:24:29 PM »

2011 SEUC, stock 110, Fullsac header and map.

Rear cylinder cuts out in 75 degree weather with low humidity. Idle time in traffic is not more than a few minutes before I can move at a good speed.

I know this 110 runs hotter than the 96 in my old Ultra but I was not expecting the rear cylinder to be cutting out so much. Is this normal?

There is nothing wrong with pulling it out of closed loop at idle at running 13.8 AFR. Should help, you have the device and can make that happen with a map mod. Steve at Fullsac should be well versed with this issue as he lives in a furnace

If you're running the TTS calibration, the rear cylinder alone should not be "cutting out".  The TTS method is to skip-fire both cylinders.

At any rate, it would behoove you to make a few "v-tune" runs to make sure the calibration is right for your bike before you start taking it out of closed loop.  You may not need to after all.

Thanks for the replies. I will need to read up on doing a few V-tunes.

By the way, I am assuming it's the rear cylinder cutting out since that is the Harley programming. Can't tell for sure.

Yup, it's the rear cylinder.  That's the one that always runs hotter, so it makes sense to have that one shut down.  It's also the one closest to the rider, so shutting it down will have a more dramatic affect on rider comfort.

Send Steve George (Fullsac) a PM or give him a call and see what he can tell you regarding tweaks to his map for the TTS.  I don't think you really want to take it out of closed loop for normal cruise, but adding some extra fuel at idle and very low rpm and throttle might make a big difference when you get stuck in traffic.

Get one of those fancy digital oil temp gauges to monitor how hot she's getting.  Mine lasted 3 years before it started telling me there was no oil in it and i had to start actually pulling the think out to make sure it wasn't lying, but the temp gauge still works.  I have the oil cooler and a couple fans on it and it still gets hot enough at those temps to shot the cylinder off in stop and go traffic :(

I will get with Steve to get some advice from him.

My laptop has a bad battery so I have no idea when I can play with V-Tune.

I have a Harley digital oil dip stick and I check it every time I get off the bike. It is showing oil temps in the 270 range on the hottest days where I have been in traffic like Rolling Thunder. Of course with Rolling Thunder I expect the bike to get hot and have the rear cylinder cut out, which it did.

TTS doesn't do just the rear cylinder, it does both of them, and if you're using a calibration from Fullsac, you're not running the HD code in the ECM but instead the TTS code because he doesn't "do" SEPST or PV (unless something's changed recently).  If just your rear cylinder is skip-firing, then you're not running a TTS calibration.  It's as simple as that.
